India: Case against BJP MLA in Maha for violating lockdown norms

Wardha, Apr 6 (PTI) A case been registered against Maharashtra BJP MLA Dadarao Keche for allegedly violating norms related to the ongoing coronavirus-enforced lockdown by asking people to gather at his residence to get free ration on the occasion of his birthday, police said on Monday.

The case against Keche was registered under IPC sections 188 (disobedience to order duly promulgated by public servant) and 269 (negligent act likely to spread infection of disease dangerous to life) on late Sunday night, police inspector Sampat Chavan said.

Pakistan's coronavirus cases reach 3,277

Islamabad, Apr 6 (PTI) The number of the coronavirus cases in Pakistan on Monday reached 3,277 with the infections in the worst-hit Punjab province approaching 1,500 despite government claims that the ongoing lockdown in the country has slowed down the spread of the deadly virus.

Ministry of National Health Services said that 50 patients have so far died of the disease, while 257 people have recovered.

India: Maha Health Min Tope holds meeting with Tablighi members

Mumbai, Apr 5 (PTI) As five more COVID-19 patients in Maharashtra were found to have contracted the infection from the people who had attended last month's event in Delhi's Nizamuddin, state Health Minister Rajesh Tope on Sunday held a meeting with members of Tablighi Jamaat.

Talking to PTI, Tope said this meeting assumed significance as some Tablighi members have been accused of deliberately spreading the infection by not cooperating with the state.

India: Maha bans entry of people without masks to Mantralaya

Mumbai, Apr 5 (PTI) Amidst the rising number of coronavirus cases in Mumbai, the Maharashtra government on Sunday announced that it was banning the entry of people without masks to Mantrlaya.

Issuing an official order, the state government stated that the people without masks will not be allowed to enter the Mantralaya.

The decision is also applicable to all the employees of the state government who are currently asked to come to office, said an official.

The state government has been functioning on five per cent workpower since the last two weeks.

India: Around 35 now staying in isolation rooms in Kolkata city hotels

Kolkata, Apr 6 (PTI) Around 35 people are presently staying at isolation rooms set up at various hotels in Kolkata, which have been earmarked by the Hotels and Restaurants Association of Eastern India (HRAEI) following the outbreak of COVID-19.

Following a request from the West Bengal government, 31 two-star, three-star and four-star hotels across the state have offered a total of 640 rooms at subsidised rates to people who have been directed to live in isolation for 14 days.

India: COVID-19 death toll rises to 109, number of cases to 4,067

New Delhi, Apr 6 (PTI) The death toll due to novel coronavirus rose to 109 and the number of cases in the country climbed to 4,067 on Monday, according to the Union Health Ministry

While the number of active COVID-19 cases stands at 3,666, as many as 291 people were cured and discharged, and one has migrated, it stated. The total number of cases include 65 foreign nationals

Singapore identifies one more foreign workers dorm as new corona cluster

SINGAPORE, April 6 (NNN-BERNAMA) – Singapore which placed two foreign workers’ dormitories as isolation areas on Sunday has identified another dormitory as a new cluster.

The new cluster of Tampines Dormitory at Tampines Place has so far reported three new confirmed cases, said a statement issued by the republic’s Ministry of Health (MOH) late Sunday.

MOH said the two isolated dormitories, S11@Punggol of Seletar North Link meanwhile has to date a total of 63 cases while Westlite Toh Guan of Toh Guan Road East has 28 confirmed cases.

Spain Sees Continued Fall In COVID-19 Cases And Deaths

MADRID, Apr 6 (NNN-AGENCIES) – The number of new cases of COVID-19 infection and new deaths continued to fall in Spain, according to the daily data published by the Spanish Ministry for Health, Consumer Affairs and Social Services on Sunday.

A total of 6,023 new infections were registered between Saturday and Sunday, fewer than the 7,026 new cases in the previous 24 hours and 7,472 between Thursday and Friday, bringing the country’s total infection cases to 130,759.

Italy’s Flattening Virus Curve Brings Europe Brief Respite

BRUSSELS, Apr 6 (NNN-XINHUA) – COVID-19-stricken Europe breathed a sigh of relief Sunday, as Italy reported its lowest single-day deaths in nearly three weeks and Spain saw continued fall in new cases and deaths.

Between Saturday and Sunday, the death toll in Italy was 525, the lowest one-day total since Mar 19. The country registered its one-day high of 969 fatalities on Mar 27. Still, the pandemic now resulted in 15,887 deaths, more than in any other country.

Over 1,300 Health Professionals Infected In Portugal

LISBON, Apr 6 (NNN-LNA) – Portuguese Minister of Health, Marta Temido, admitted that, there are 1,332 health professionals infected by COVID-19 in the country.

The minister said, the infected professionals include 231 doctors, 339 nurses and 762 from other areas, who work within hospitals, adding, the government hired 500 nurses to reinforce the fight against the pandemic.

Temido revealed that, her ministry is working to identify whether there are “possible weaknesses” in the protection of these professionals.
