New York forced to redistribute ventilators to shortage-hit parts of state

NEW YORK, April 4 (NNN-AGENCIES) — Ventilators will be taken from certain New York hospitals and redistributed to the worst-hit parts of the state under an order to be signed by Governor Andrew Cuomo.

New York saw its highest single-day increase in deaths, up by 562 to 2,935 – nearly half of all virus-related US deaths recorded Thursday.

The White House may advise those in virus hotspots to wear face coverings in public to help stem the spread.

The US now has 245,658 Covid-19 cases.

US attorney general orders release of more federal inmates due to coronavirus pandemic

WASHINGTON, April 4 (NNN-AGENCIES) — US Attorney General William Barr declared that the federal Bureau of Prisons (BOP) is facing emergency conditions due to the fast-spreading coronavirus, paving the way for the agency to begin releasing more inmates out of custody and into home confinement.

Barr said under his emergency order, priority for releasing vulnerable inmates into home confinement should be given first to those housed in federal prisons that have been hardest hit by COVID-19, including facilities such as Oakdale in Louisiana, Elkton in Ohio and Danbury in Connecticut.

Twitter deletes 7,800 fake accounts linked to Saudi Arabia, Egypt, UAE

03 April 2020; MEMO: Twitter yesterday removed 7,800 fake accounts linked to the governments of Saudi Arabia, Egypt and the UAE for violating its policies and being a “targeted attempt to undermine the public conversation”.

The company explained that 5,350 accounts received directions from governments “amplifying content praising Saudi leadership, and critical of Qatar and Turkish activity in Yemen”.

Covid-19: Global cases top a million, deaths surpass 50,000

WASHINGTON, April 3 (NNN-AGENCIES) — The number of confirmed coronavirus cases around the world soared past one million and deaths topped 50,000 as Europe reeled from the pandemic and the United States reported the highest daily death toll so far of any country.

Despite more than half the planet imposing some form of lockdown, the virus claimed thousands more lives, with the US, Spain and Britain seeing the highest number of daily fatalities yet.

Covid-19: Global tally of recoveries tops 200,000

WASHINGTON, April 3 (NNN-AGENCIES) — The global tally of people who made recoveries from deadly Coronavirus topped 200,000 on Thursday, four times the worldwide death toll.

According to the running data of U.S.-based Johns Hopkins University, a total of 202,541 recoveries have been recorded across the globe, while more than 48,300 people have died from the epidemic and cases surged to nearly 952,000.

Trump proposes USD 2 trillion infrastructure fund

Washington, Apr 2 (PTI) US President Donald Trump has proposed a massive USD 2 trillion infrastructure plan, along with several other measures like corporate deductibility for restaurants and entertainment facilities to stimulate the American economy ravaged by the coronavirus pandemic.

Trump's proposal comes days after he passed a USD 2.2 trillion stimulus package that gives USD 3,200 on an average to an American family of four and massive financial assistance to small and medium enterprises, big corporations and the country's travel and tourism industry.

Russian plane lands in US with medical supplies to combat coronavirus

Washington, Apr 2 (PTI) A Russian cargo plane carrying 60 tonnes of medical supplies, including ventilators, masks and other protection gear, needed to treat the patients with COVID-19 landed in the US as the country wrestles with the coronavirus pandemic that the White House has warned could kill up to two lakh people during the next fortnight.

The Permanent Mission of Russia to NATO on Thursday tweeted a video of the Russian Ministry of Defence cargo aircraft Ruslan AN-124-100 arriving at the John F Kennedy airport in New York.

U.S. Reports Over 210,000 COVID-19 Cases, More Than 5,000 Deaths

WASHINGTON, Apr 2 (NNN-XINHUA) – The United States has reported more than 210,000 COVID-19 cases Wednesday night (last night), hours after it became the first country with more than 200,000 infections, according to Johns Hopkins University on Wednesday night.

Death toll from the disease also exceeded 5,000 on Wednesday, jumping by 884 in 24 hours.

As of Wednesday night, a total of 215,417 confirmed cases have been reported in the United States, with 5,116 deaths, showed the tally, updated by the university’s Centre for Systems Science and Engineering.

US corona deaths pass 4,000

WASHINGTON, April 1 (NNN-AGENCIES) — The total US death toll from the coronavirus pandemic topped 4,000 early Wednesday, more than double the number from three days earlier, according to a tally by Johns Hopkins University.

The number of deaths was 4,076 – more than twice the 2,010 recorded late Saturday, Johns Hopkins data showed.

More than 40 percent of recorded deaths nationally were in New York state, the Johns Hopkins data showed.
