Iran promises to punish those responsible for Ukrainian plane crash

KIEV, Jan. 12 (Xinhua) -- Iranian President Hassan Rouhani apologized over the downing of a Ukrainian plane and has promised that everyone responsible for the tragedy will be punished, the Ukrainian president's press service reported on Saturday evening.

Following a conversation with his Iranian counterpart, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said on his official Twitter page that "acknowledging the shooting down of the plane is a step in the right direction."

KIEV, Ukraine, Jan 12 (NNN-AGENCIES) – Ukrainian Prime Minister, Oleksiy Honcharuk, said, on Saturday, that, Ukraine would pay 200,000 hryvnia ($8,350) each, to the families of those who died in a plane crash in Iran this week.

He said, Ukraine International Airlines, would make payments to the families of the crew members, who died in the crash.

The airline’s spokeswoman was not immediately available for comment.

Honcharuk also said, Ukrainian diplomats were working on how to receive compensation from the Iranian authorities.

"We expect Iran... to bring the guilty to the courts," the Ukrainian leader wrote on Facebook, calling also for the "payment of compensation" and the return of remains.

KIEV (Reuters) - Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy is set to hold a telephone call with his Iranian counterpart Hassan Rouhani on Saturday after Tehran said it had mistakenly shot down a Ukrainian passenger jet, the Ukrainian president’s office said.

The Ukrainian passenger airplane traveling to Kiev crashed shortly after take-off from Tehran on Wednesday, killing all 176 people on board.

Iran had previously denied any responsibility.

US has given Ukraine 'important data' on Iran plane crash

Kiev, Jan 10 (AFP/PTI) US officials have handed Kiev "important data" following a plane crash in Iran, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Vadym Prystaiko said on Friday.

"President Volodymyr Zelensky and I met with US representatives," Prystaiko said in a post on Twitter. "We have received important data which will be processed by our experts.

UIA plane crash in Iran is first fatal incident for Ukrainian airline: Govt

KIEV, Jan 8 (NNN-AGENCIES) — A Ukraine International Airlines (UIA) Boeing 737-800 crashed in Iran on Wednesday, killing all 176 people on board, according to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy and Iranian state TV. It was the first fatal crash for Kiev-based UIA.

It was not immediately clear what caused the crash, though Iran’s semi-official Fars news agency cited unspecified technical problems.

Ukrainian president urges to ‘refrain from speculations’ around Iran plane crash

KIEV, January 8. /TASS/: President of Ukraine Vladimir Zelensky urged to refrain from putting forward "unverified versions" around the situation with the crash of a passenger plane of Ukraine International Airlines in Tehran.

"I ask everyone to refrain from speculating and putting forward unverified versions of the disaster before official reports," he said on Wednesday.

Ukraine’s government discussing direct gas import from Russia — Naftogaz

KIEV, December 31. /TASS/: The Ukrainian government is proactively discussing the potential restart of direct natural gas purchases from Russia, CEO of Naftogaz of Ukraine Andrei Kobolev said at a press conference on Tuesday.

"An intensive and proactive discussion [of direct supplies] is currently underway inside the Ukrainian government and broader political circles. We can return to this after it ends; Naftogaz is not holding such negotiations at this point," Kobolev said.
