Laos, Cambodia Agree To Promote Cooperation In Border Security

VIENTIANE, Sept 1 (NNN-KPL) – Personnel from the Lao and Cambodian armies will continue their cooperation in border security, as well as, humanitarian assistance, especially during natural disasters.

Cooperation between the two countries in these fields was discussed when Deputy Commander-in-Chief of the Royal Cambodian Armed Forces and Commander of the Royal Cambodian Army, Hun Manet, and senior army staff visited Laos from Monday to Wednesday.

Thousands Of People In Northern Laos Affected By Floods

VIENTIANE, Aug 29 (NNN-KPL) – Thousands of people in northern Laos have been affected by flash floods, triggered by heavy rains in recent days.

Oudomxay, Bokeo, Huaphan and Phongsaly are among the provinces hit by the floods.

Oudomxay province, some 310 km north of the Lao capital, Vientiane, has been the hardest hit, since last Friday, chief of the Lar district, Houmphan Bouphakham, told local media today.

He said, roads were flooded and impassable, houses destroyed or damaged, and electricity and water supplies cut off.

Laos Plans To Import Fuel From Saudi Arabia

VIENTIANE, July 27 (NNN-KPL) – The Lao government is considering importing fuel from Saudi Arabia, and exporting agricultural produce to the oil-rich nation.

According to the local daily, Vientiane Times, today, these issues were raised for discussions when Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Saleumxay Kommasith, held talks with his Saudi counterpart, Prince Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud, via video link, last Thursday.

World Bank To Provide Laos With 395 Million USD Funding Support: Report

VIENTIANE, May 5 (NNN-KPL) – The World Bank expects to support 11 projects in Laos, at a cost of about 395 million U.S. dollars, from 2022 to 2026, the Vientiane Times said today.

Collaboration between Laos and the World Bank will focus on three areas, including promoting green growth, investment in human resource development, and environmental protection.

Laos Targets 1.55 Billion USD In Trade Surplus In 2022

VIENTIANE, Mar 10 (NNN-KPL) – The Lao government is aiming for a trade surplus of at least 1.55 billion U.S. dollars in 2022, despite the country’s economic difficulties, triggered by the COVID-19 pandemic.

The value of exports is projected to reach 7.6 billion U.S. dollars, while the value of imports is forecast at 6.05 billion U.S. dollars, according to a recent report from the Prime Minister’s Office, quoted by the Vientiane Times, today.

Lao Gov’t Launches Online Visa Application Portal

VIENTIANE, Mar 3 (NNN-KPL) – Laos launched an official online visa portal, allowing foreign residents and Lao nationals living overseas to apply for a visa online.

Government spokesperson and deputy head of the Prime Minister’s Office, Thipphakone Chanthavongsa, told a press conference here yesterday that, Lao Ministry of Foreign Affairs has been authorised to issue visas for certain visitors on the website “Laogreenpass.go.la.”

Lao leader speaks highly of China-Laos railway

VIENTIANE, Feb. 11 (Xinhua) -- General Secretary of the Lao People's Revolutionary Party Central Committee and Lao President Thongloun Sisoulith has spoken highly of the China-Laos Railway during his recent trip by the Lane Xang EMU train and inspection on the railway's operation.

Thongloun, who led a government delegation, took the train traveling from the capital Vientiane to the Boten town bordering China on Monday, before returning to Vientiane from Luang Prabang on Wednesday.

Laos Builds 58 Solar Power Plants To Develop Sustainable Energy

VIENTIANE, Feb 1 (NNN-KPL) – A total of 58 solar power plants have been completed or under construction across Laos, with a total installed capacity of 7,656 MW, local daily, Vientiane Times, reported today.

Eight of these plants have been completed and 50 are under construction, said the report.

The Ministry of Energy and Mines reported the progress made in this area of development, at a recent meeting, to discuss the direction of solar power development with authorities at the central and local levels.

Laos To Earn 463 Million USD In Mineral Trade In Last Three Months Of 2021

VIENTIANE, Nov 19 (NNN-KPL) – Laos is expecting to earn about 463 million U.S. dollars, from the sale of minerals domestically and for export, in the last three months of 2021, after earning 1,464 million U.S. dollars in the first nine months of 2021.

The value of mineral sales this year is expected to be 15.04 percent more than targeted, Deputy Prime Minister, Sonexay Siphandone told the National Assembly last week, local daily Vientiane Times reported today.

Laos Exports First 50 Tonnes Of Rice To EU

VIENTIANE, Oct 5 (NNN-KPL) – Laos exported its first 50 tonnes of rice to the European Union, local daily Vientiane Times reported today.

The first shipment of the Thadokkham-8 (TDK8) rice variety, is being sold to Belgium by Champahom Trading Import-Export Sole Co., Ltd., and the sale is part of a project to promote rice production for commercial purposes, under the Lao Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry, supported by a loan from the World Bank, said the report.
