First Batch Of Students Released From Isolation In Brunei

BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN, Apr 5 (NNN-BBNEWS) – The first batch of Bruneian students, who underwent isolation at several isolation centres, from Mar 20, completed their 14-day isolation yesterday.

Parents and family members were seen waiting patiently at various hotels, which had isolation centres, while the children underwent the process of checking out after isolation.

New Isolation Centre Under Construction In Brunei

BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN, Mar 28 (NNN-BBNEWS) – A new National Isolation Centre (NIC) is being constructed in the Tutong District, to accommodate patients positive for COVID-19. The Ministry of Development (MoD) is collaborating with the Ministry of Health (MoH) in coordinating the construction of the new NIC.

This was stated by Minister of Development, Ir Awang Haji Suhaimi bin Haji Gafar, during a press conference at the MoH yesterday.

Brunei Sees 17 Percent Increase In Cancer Cases During 2014-2018

BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN, Feb 5 (NNN-BB NEWS) – Cancer patients in Brunei have increased by 17 percent from 2014 to 2018, compared to the period of between 2009 to 2013, Health Minister, Haji Mohammad Isham, said.

According to the minister, on World Cancer Day, which fell on Tuesday (yesterday), about 644 nationals and permanent residents of Brunei Darussalam were diagnosed with cancer, and the number of cancer deaths in 2018 was 304.

Brunei, China Sign Muskmelon Export Protocol

BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN, Dec 18 (NNN-BBNEWS) – China and Brunei signed a protocol on the phyto-sanitary requirement, to allow export of muskmelon from Brunei to China, Brunei’s Ministry of Primary Resources and Tourism, said.

The signing was made in Beijing on Monday, between the General Administration of Customs of China and the Ministry of Primary Resources and Tourism of Brunei. Brunei was represented by the Minister of Primary Resources and Tourism, Haji Ali, and on behalf of China was Vice Minister of General Administration of Customs, Zhang Jiwen.

Brunei To Hold First International Flower Show

BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN, Oct 6 (NNN-BB NEWS) – Brunei’s International Flower Show (BIFS) 2019, scheduled for Oct 23-27, drew exhibitors from China, Thailand and Vietnam, as well as, from local companies, a senior Brunei official said.

It will feature flower exhibitions, creative landscaping, workshops, activities and competitions.

Brunei To Achieve National Rice Sufficiency Targets: Minister

BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN, Sept 16 (NNN-BB NEWS) – Efforts to boost Brunei’s rice production, to achieve its national rice sufficiency targets, are gaining momentum with the use of high-yielding rice strains and the doubling of sites for commercial rice cultivation, local media reported on Sunday, quoting Brunei’s Minister of Primary Resources and Tourism, Haji Ali bin Apong.

Haze Returns To Brunei

BANDAR SRI BEGAWAN, Sept 8 (NNN-BORNEO BULLETIN) – Despite heavy rain in some parts of the Brunei-Muara District yesterday afternoon, the haze condition continues to persist in the country.

A joint press statement released by the Department of Environment, said that the hazy conditions are due to predominant hot spots occurring in the Borneo region and carried over to Brunei by the prevailing southwesterly winds.

Pearls, precious stones and metals make up Brunei's 4th largest export

BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN, April 22 (Xinhua) -- Brunei lives up to its name as the "Kingdom of Unexpected Treasures," as its pearls, precious or semi-precious stones and precious metals make up the fourth largest export of the country.

Updated data posted earlier this month from the International Trade Centre, the joint agency of the World Trade Organization and the United Nations, showed that the sultanate recorded 29.0 million U.S. dollars in exports of pearls, precious or semi-precious stones and metals last year.

Brunei holds int'l kite festival to revive traditional past time

BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN, March 17 (Xinhua) -- Brunei's Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah officially launched the International Kite Festival on Sunday with some 200 kiting enthusiasts expected to participate in the event.

The Sultan made his way to the Taman Mahkota Jubli Emas, a riverfront public park in the capital, where he inaugurated the event before trying his hand at flying one kite. He also toured the exhibits and mingled with the crowd.
