New ASEAN envoy to Myanmar says he wants full access when he visits

BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN, Aug 7 (Reuters) - The Brunei diplomat appointed by a Southeast Asian regional bloc as its special envoy to Myanmar said on Saturday he should be given full access to all parties when he visits the strife-torn country, where the military overthrew an elected government.

Speaking days after his appointment by the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), Erywan Yusof gave no date for his visit to Myanmar, whose civilian leader Aung San Suu Kyi and other officials have been detained since the Feb. 1 coup. 

Brunei: ASEAN+3 vow to deepen financial cooperation to sustain economic growth amid COVID-19 pandemic

BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN, May 3 (Xinhua) -- Member states of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), plus China, Japan and South Korea, have pledged to enhance financial cooperation to achieve resilient, inclusive and sustainable economic growth amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

The pledge was made during the 24th ASEAN+3 Finance Ministers' and Central Bank Governors' Meeting (AFMGM+3) which was held virtually on Monday in Brunei.

China-Brunei Trade Grows By Over 70 Percent In 2020: Ambassador

BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN, Apr 11 (NNN-XINHUA) – China and Brunei saw their bilateral trade volume rise 72.5 percent last year, ranking top among China’s ASEAN partners, Chinese Ambassador to Brunei, Yu Hong said, yesterday.

During the awards ceremony of the Logo Design Competition, for the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Brunei and China, Yu said, China and Brunei enjoy a long history of friendly exchanges and good relationship that dates back to as early as 2,000 years ago when the Maritime Silk Road brought them together.

Brunei kicks off COVID-19 national vaccination program

BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN, April 4 (Xinhua) -- Brunei officially began its national vaccination program for COVID-19 at vaccination centers throughout the country on Saturday.

According to Brunei's Ministry of Health, a total of 754 people received their first dose of COVID-19 vaccine injection on Saturday, including Haji Awang Mohammad Isham, Minister of Health, who received his jab of Sinopharm vaccine at the Raja Isteri Pengiran Anak Saleha Hospital (RIPAS), the country's biggest public hospital with dozens of other recipients.

China-Brunei joint venture contributes to local employment with latest education cooperation

BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN, March 13 (Xinhua) -- Hengyi Industries Sdn Bhd, a petrochemical joint venture between Brunei and China, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on Saturday with a local vocational institute here, which is another key step in bilateral education cooperation and human resources development.

Hengyi Industries is a joint venture between China's Zhejiang Hengyi Group and Damai Holdings, a wholly-owned subsidiary under the Brunei government's Strategic Development Capital Fund, owning 70 percent and 30 percent of the shares, respectively.

Brunei-China Joint Petrochemical Venture Organises Blood Donation

BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN, Jan 28 (NNN-ANN) – Hengyi Industries Sdn Bhd, a joint venture between China and Brunei, held a blood donation at its headquarters, at Pulau Muara Besar.

According to a press release from Hengyi today, the blood donation was held in collaboration with Blood Donation Centre, Raja Isteri Pengiran Anak Saleha Hospital (RIPAS), Brunei’s most prominent hospital. A total of 52 staff and the management of Hengyi volunteered to donate their blood during the event.

China, Brunei vow to push bilateral cooperation to new high

BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN, Jan. 14 (Xinhua) -- Brunei's Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah met with visiting Chinese State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi here Thursday, and both sides pledged to carry on joint fight against the COVID-19 pandemic and promote bilateral cooperation in all areas to new high.

Since the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic, both countries have joined hands in fighting the virus and deepened mutual trust and friendship, demonstrating the real nature of the bilateral strategic cooperative partnership, Wang said.

Brunei Among Top 50 Safest Places During COVID-19: Report

BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN, Sept 7 NNN-ANN) – Brunei ranks among the top 50 safest places, globally, to live, during the COVID-19 pandemic, a global research report said.

According to local daily, the Borneo Bulletin on Sunday, the study by Deep Knowledge Group, a consortium of companies and non-profits owned by Deep Knowledge Ventures, a Hong Kong-based investment firm, indicated that the Brunei authorities’ whole-of-nation approach, strong leader, a very committed population and the involvement of everyone, managed to curb the COVID-19 spread.

Brunei, Chinese Mainland Resume Direct Flights After COVID-19 Situation Under Control

BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN, Aug 9 (NNN-ANN) – Brunei resumed direct flights with Hangzhou, China on Tuesday, marking its first direct flights with the Chinese mainland, after COVID-19 pandemic cut air connection between the two countries.

According to travel agencies and the Chinese embassy in Brunei, the round-trip direct flights between Bandar Seri Begawan and Hangzhou, will be carried out by Royal Brunei Airlines (RB), the sultanate’s national carrier, with Boeing 787 or Airbus 320.

Brunei Reports No New COVID-19 Cases For 33 Straight Days

BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN, June 10 (NNN-BB NEWS) – Brunei reported no new cases of COVID-19 on Tuesday, with the national tally of cases standing at 141, marking the 33rd consecutive day without new cases, since May 7.

In relation to the contacts of the cases found to be positive in Malaysia, laboratory tests for COVID-19 on 134 contacts of the cases are found to be negative, while others are still pending test results.

The ministry of health says, 120 individuals are currently undergoing quarantine and a total of 2,703 individuals have completed their quarantine.
