Israeli Missiles Hit Int’l Airport, Military Sites In Syria’s Aleppo

DAMASCUS, May 2 (NNN-SANA) – Israeli missiles hit the international airport and several military sites in the northern Syrian province of Aleppo last night, killing one soldier and wounding seven others, the Syrian army said in a statement.

The attack was carried out before midnight, hitting the airport and a number of military positions in the countryside of Aleppo, it said, adding that, two civilians were among the wounded.

Syrian President Hails China’s Support For Syria, Peacemaking Role In Mideast

DAMASCUS, May 1 (NNN-SANA) – Syrian President, Bashar al-Assad, hailed China’s supportive stance towards Syria and its role in solving critical regional issues, including the Iranian-Saudi reconciliation.

Assad made the remarks during his meeting with visiting China’s special envoy on Middle East affairs, Zhai Jun, in the capital, Damascus.

Assad said, Syria appreciates China’s firm support in issues concerning Syria’s national independence, sovereignty, and territorial integrity.

Saudi FM pays 1st visit to Syria in 12 years

DAMASCUS, April 18 (Xinhua) -- Saudi Arabian Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud arrived in the Syrian capital of Damascus Tuesday afternoon, the first visit of a Saudi official to Syria in 12 years, according to the state news agency SANA.

The visit comes days after Syrian Foreign Minister Faisal Mekdad visited the kingdom as part of the efforts to restore normal relations between the two countries.

During Mekdad's visit to Saudi Arabia, an agreement was made to restore consulate services and resume air flights between the two countries.

DAMASCUS/RIYADH, Apr 13 (NNN-SANA/SPA) – Syria and Saudi Arabia agreed in a joint statement, to resume consular services and flights yesterday, after bilateral ties have been stranded for years.

The announcement came as Syrian Foreign Minister, Faisal Mekdad, wrapped up his visit to Saudi Arabia yesterday, the first time since the Syrian civil war broke out in 2011.

The US forces confirmed in a brief statement that the attack that targeted the base did not result in human losses or material damage, noting that it took place at 5:51 PM local time in Syria.

Landmine kills 6 truffle collectors in E. Syria

DAMASCUS, April 8 (Xinhua) -- A landmine explosion killed six civilians in Syria's central Homs province on Saturday, the latest tragedy caused by the country's undetected landmines and unexploded ordnances, state news agency SANA reported.

The landmine ripped through a car transporting workers en route to collecting truffles in the al-Amour Mount area in the countryside of Al-Sukhnah town east of Homs, said SANA.

Syria: Two civilians killed by Israel attack in capital Damascus

04 Apr 2023; MEMO: Two civilians were killed early Tuesday after an Israeli attack targeted the capital, Damascus, for the third time in less than a week, according to Syria's official news agency, SANA.

"At 00:15 a.m. on Tuesday, the Israeli enemy carried out an air attack with bursts of missiles from the direction of the occupied Syrian Golan, targeting some points in the vicinity of Damascus and the southern region," SANA quoted a military source as saying.

Arab states normalising ties with Syria should "get something" in return, US official says

02 Apr 2023; MEMO: Arab nations normalising relations with Syrian president Bashar al-Assad and his regime should try to "get something" out of it, a senior American official has said.

Speaking in a digital briefing from the US Department of State's London International Media Hub, Assistant Secretary of State for Near Eastern Affairs Barbara Leaf said that Washington has been having discussions with its allies in the Middle East about "their shift in policy" toward the Assad regime.
