Islamabad, May 27; GANASHAKTI: China will always stand by Pakistan's "core interests" no matter how the international landscape changes, visiting Chinese Vice President Wang Qishan has said as he cited the USD 60 billion CPEC as the manifestation of their all-weather relationship.

Addressing a meeting on Sunday organised by the Pakistan-China Institute (PCI), the senior Chinese leader said the world was passing through a time of major developments and transformation.

ISLAMABAD, Jun 23 (APP): President Dr Arif Alvi on Sunday conferred Nishan-i-Pakistan upon Amir of Qatar Shiekh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani in a special investiture ceremony held at the Aiwan-e-Sadr.

The ceremony was attended by Speaker National Assembly Asad Qaiser, Chairman Senate Sadiq Sanjarani, Governor Punjab, Chaudhry Muhammad Sarwar, members of the federal cabinet, members of the parliament, members of Qatar delegation and civil and military officials.

LAHORE, Jun 21 (APP): Lahore District Karate Association is organising the ‘Olympic Day 2019’ Lahore District Team Kumite Karate Championship here on June 23 at the Punjab College.

LDKA is holding the event in collaboration with Pakistan Karate Association. All the affiliated clubs of Lahore district will participate in the competition. Each team will consist of five players and tournament will be played on knock-out system.

The championship will start at 9am and the closing ceremony will be held at 4pm.

ISLAMABAD, Jun 21 (APP): Amir of the State of Qatar Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani is scheduled to arrive here Saturday on two-day visit to Pakistan from June 22-23, 2019, on the invitation of Prime Minister Imran Khan.

He would be accompanied by a high level delegation comprising key ministers and senior officials, a Foreign Office statement said.

Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani had earlier visited Pakistan in March 2015.
During the visit, the Amir of Qatar would hold talks with the the prime minister and meet President Dr Arif Alvi.

ISLAMABAD, June 20 (Xinhua) -- At least three people were killed and several passengers sustained injuries when a passenger train collided with a cargo train near Hyderabad city of Pakistan's southern Sindh province on Thursday, railways officials said.

A driver, an assistant driver of the passenger train and a security guard of the cargo train were killed and multiple others injured when the Lahore-bound Jinnah Express collided with the freight train near Hyderabad, Federal Railways Minister Sheikh Rasheed Ahmad said.

Islamabad, Jun 20 : For the first time, Imran Khan will bat for Pakistan at the 74th session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York in September, according to a top aide of the prime minister.

LAHORE, Jun 17 (APP): Sports Board Punjab (SBP) Director General Nadeem Sarwar inaugurated the Punjab Inter-Division (Open) Snooker Championship by playing a shot here at Nishtar Park Sports Complex Gymnasium Hall on Monday.

The SBP is organising the two-day championship with the collaboration of the Punjab Snooker Association. Teams from all nine divisions of Punjab province are taking part in the championship.

SBP Director General Nadeem Sarwar was chief guest on the opening day.

Lahore/Amritsar, Jun 14; PTI/GANASHAKTI: Pakistan on Friday claimed that India refused to let its train cross the border and bring some 200 Sikh yatris to Lahore for Jore Mela festivities.

"Pakistan had issued visas to some 200 Indian Sikhs to attend the Jore Mela (death anniversary of Guru Arjun Dev jee) and they were due to arrive here by a Pakistani train on Friday. But the Indian government refused to allow the Pakistani train to enter its territory to bring the Sikh yatris here," Amir Hashmi, spokesperson for Evacuee Trust Property Board, told PTI.

ISLAMABAD, June 13 (Xinhua) -- Floods triggered by continuous torrential rains hit different areas of Gilgit-Baltistan region in the north of Pakistan in the past days, leaving at least three people dead and injuring several others, local media and officials said Thursday.

Disaster Management Authority officials said in a statement that torrential rains and the floods caused widespread devastation by destroying several houses and washing away crops, livestock and vehicles in different areas, including Nagar, Skardu and Shigar district of the region.
