7,139 Indian prisoners lodged in foreign jails: MEA

New Delhi, Feb 4 (PTI) A total of 7,139 Indian prisoners, including undertrials, are lodged in various jails around the world, the Ministry of External Affairs said on Thursday

Saudi Arabia has the highest number of 1,599 Indian prisoners, followed by the United Arab Emirates with 898 and Nepal having 886 inmates, according to information provided by Minister of State for External Affairs V Muraleedharan in Rajya Sabha.

India's COVID-19 tally rises to 10,790,183 with 12,899 new cases

NEW DELHI, Feb. 4 (Xinhua) -- India's COVID-19 tally rose to 10,790,183 on Thursday, as 12,899 new cases were registered during the past 24 hours, said the latest data from the health ministry.

According to the official data, the death toll mounted to 154,703 as 107 COVID-19 patients died since Wednesday morning.

There are still 155,025 active cases in the country, while 10,480,455 people have been discharged so far from hospitals after medical treatment.

India: Jharkhand health worker dies after receiving COVID vaccine

Ranchi, Feb 3 (PTI) A health worker has died 36 hours after being administered COVID vaccine in Jharkhand, officials said on Wednesday.

The health worker, identified as Mannu Pahan, was administered the Covishield vaccine at his workplace Medanta Hospital here on February 1 and he died on Tuesday night, the private medical establishment's CEO Dr Pankaj Sahni said.

Delhi govt to help trace farmers missing from protest sites

New Delhi, Feb 3 (PTI) Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Wednesday said his government will help trace the farmers missing since the January 26 violence and if the need arises, he will approach the Lieutenant Governor and the Centre.

Kejriwal said that the Delhi government has also released a list of 115 persons lodged in different jails here in connection with the January 26 violence during the farmers' tractor rally.

India: Bring bill for restoring J&K statehood: Azad to government

New Delhi, Feb 3 (PTI) Senior Congress leader Ghulam Nabi Azad on Wednesday asked the government to bring a bill in Rajya Sabha proposing restoration of statehood for Jammu and Kashmir.

Speaking during the Motion of Thanks to the President's Address, Leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha Azad said, "I appeal to you, if Jammu and Kashmir has to progress and if we have to fight our enemies at the borders, we need to take our own people into confidence and give them love."

India: Nadda to kick-off BJP's rath yatra in Bengal on Sat

Kolkata, Feb 2 (PTI) BJP president J P Nadda will launch the party's month-long rath yatra on Saturday in West Bengal ahead of the assembly polls, sources said on Tuesday.

The Bharatiya Janata Party has decided to take out rath yatras across the state in February & March to drum up support for the party in the elections. The yatras will be conducted in five segments and will cover all the 294 assembly constituencies of the state.

India: Dalit woman raped in UP's Ballia

Ballia (UP), Feb 2 (PTI) A Dalit woman was allegedly raped by a 24-year-old man here, following which the accused was arrested, police said on Tuesday.

The incident took place on Monday when the 19-year-old woman was alone at her home, SHO of Nagra police station Vivek Pandey said.

Based on a complaint lodged by the woman's mother, a case was registered against the man under relevant sections of the IPC and the SC/ST Act, Pandey said, adding that the accused was arrested on Tuesday.
