India: Jim Corbett Park may be renamed 'Ramganga National Park'

Dehradun, Oct 6 (PTI) Jim Corbett National Park, a world-renowned tiger reserve in Uttarakhand, may be renamed as Ramganga National Park in the future.

Union Minister of State for Forest and Environment Ashwini Kumar Choubey hinted about the change in name of India's first national park which is spread over an area of about 521 km. He recently mentioned it in a museum guest book on his tour of the park.

India: Raid on cruise ship `fake', no drugs were found: NCP

Mumbai, Oct 6 (PTI) The Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) alleged on Wednesday that the NCB's raid on a cruise ship off the Mumbai coast on October 2 was fake , and no narcotic drugs were found during it.

The party also questioned the presence of two persons along with the NCB team during the raid, and alleged that one of them was a BJP member.

India: Ice cream parlours to attract 18 pc GST

New Delhi, Oct 6 (PTI) Ice creams sold by a parlour or such outlets will attract 18 per cent Goods and Services Tax (GST), the CBIC said on Wednesday.

In two sets of circulars, the Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC) clarified on issues raised by trade and industry on rates changes related to 21 goods and services, the decision of which was taken at the 45th GST Council meeting on September 17.

India: SC to hear Lakhimpur Kheri killings matter on Thursday

New Delhi, Oct 6 (PTI) The Supreme Court has decided to hear on Thursday the Lakhimpur Kheri case of Uttar Pradesh in which eight people, including four farmers, were killed as violence erupted during a farmers' protest.

As per the cause list uploaded on the apex court website, a three-judge bench comprising Chief Justice N V Ramana and Justices Surya Kant and Hima Kohli would hear the matter.

India: Commission set up to probe Lakhimpur Kheri killings

Lucknow, Oct 7 (PTI) The Uttar Pradesh government has constituted a one-member Commission to probe the Lakhimpur Kheri incident in which eight people were killed, a senior Home Department official said on Thursday.

"A notification for the constitution of the Commission has been issued. The commission has been given two months time to probe the matter," the official said.

India: Man shot dead while offering namaz at mosque in UP

Siddharthnagar (UP), Oct 7 (PTI) A 55-year-old man was shot dead while offering namaz at a mosque in a village here Thursday, police said.

The incident took place in Kolua village in the Chilia area.

An unidentified person fired at Kamruzzama from behind when he was reciting Quran after "azan" about 5 am, Additional Superintendent of Police (SP), Suresh Chand Rawat said.

Later, police reached the spot and sent the body for postmortem.

A detailed probe in the matter is on.

No arrests have been made in this case so far.

India: British diplomat molested in Chandigarh

Chandigarh, Oct 7 (PTI) A woman diplomat posted at the British Deputy High Commission here was allegedly molested by an unidentified motorcycle-borne miscreant, police said on Thursday.

The 60-year-old diplomat was walking towards the Chandigarh Lawn Tennis Association in Sector 10 from her house in Sector 9 around 6:30 am on Wednesday when a man on a motorcycle approached from behind and hit her on her back inappropriately, they said.

In her complaint, the diplomat said she raised an alarm and even ran after him, but the man sped away, the police added.

India: 15 killed in road accident in UP's Barabanki

Barabanki (UP), Oct 7 (PTI) A bus collided with a sand-laden truck near Baburi village in the district here on Thursday, leaving 15 people dead and 27 others injured, police said.

The bus carrying 70 passengers was going to Bahraich from Delhi when the accident took place, Barabanki Superintendent of Police Yamuna Prasad said, adding that the collision took place as the bus driver tried to avoid hitting a stray cow.
