India: Guwahati airport's operations handed over to Adani Group

Guwahati, Oct 8 (PTI) The Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport in Guwahati was handed over to the Adani Group for operations, management and development responsibilities on Friday.

Beginning the process of developing and modernising the Northeast's foremost airport, the symbolic key of the airport was handed over by Ramesh Kumar, Airport Director of the Airports Authority of India (AAI). to Utpal Baruah, Chief Airport Officer of the new airport operator at an event held midnight, a press statement said.

India: Man arrested for raping teenage girl in UP

Muzaffarnagar (UP), Oct 8 (PTI) A man was arrested for allegedly raping a 16-year-old girl here in a village under Budhana area here, police said on Friday.

Station House Officer Rajiv Kumar said a case was registered against Gulab Singh on Thursday and he has been arrested.

A medical examination confirmed rape.

The girl was produced before a magistrate and gave her statement under Section 164 of CrPC.

India: Petrol, diesel price hiked again

New Delhi, Oct 8 (PTI) Petrol price on Friday was hiked by 30 paise a litre and diesel by 35 paise per litre as domestic fuel prices witnessed possibly the largest rally in rates.

The price of petrol in Delhi rose to its highest-ever level of Rs 103.54 a litre and to Rs 109.54 per litre in Mumbai, according to a price notification of state-owned fuel retailers.

Diesel rates too touched a record high of Rs 92.12 in Delhi and inched closer to the Rs 100-a-litre mark in Mumbai. It currently costs Rs 99.92 a litre in Mumbai.

Kanpur: The saddlery traders have partnered up with the Police Commissionerate to promote their goods in the global market.

The Police Department horses are to come to be the brand ambassadors of the city's saddlery trade in the wide world.

City accounts for 75% of the total export of saddlery from India and the export goods are evaluated to be worth ₹1000 crores every year.

Europe, America, Australia and others have been importing saddlery goods from the city for a long time.

India staring at power crisis with coal stocks down to days

NEW DELHI (AP) — An energy crisis is looming over India as coal supplies grow perilously low, adding to challenges for a recovery in Asia’s third largest economy after it was wracked by the pandemic.

Supplies across the majority of coal-fired power plants in India have dwindled to just days worth of stock.

Federal Power Minister R. K. Singh told the Indian Express newspaper this week that he was bracing for a “trying five to six months.”

“I can’t say I am secure … With less than three days of stock, you can’t be secure,” Singh said.

India: Bengal BJP leader Sabyasachi Dutta returns to TMC

India: Delhi breathes its worst air from Nov 1 to 15 every year

New Delhi, Oct 7 (PTI) People in the national capital breathe the "worst" air between November 1 and November 15 every year, an analysis of data collated by the Delhi Pollution Control Committee (DPCC) over the last five years showed.

The capital's average PM2.5 level oscillates between very poor and severe categories from October 16 to February 15.

It records an average PM2.5 concentration of 285 micrograms per cubic metre from November 1 to November 15.

India: Farmers cannot be silenced through murder: BJP MP Varun Gandhi

Lucknow, Oct 7 (PTI) BJP MP Varun Gandhi on Thursday posted a video purportedly of the Lakhimpur Kheri incident and said the protesters cannot be silenced through murder asking for accountability for the farmers.

"The video is crystal clear. Protestors cannot be silenced through murder. There has to be accountability for the innocent blood of farmers that has been spilled and justice must be delivered before a message of arrogance and cruelty enters the minds of every farmer," the Pilibhit MP said in a tweet.

India: Nursing student commits suicide in Ramakrishna Mission Hospital in Mathura

Mathura (UP), Oct 6 (PTI) A 20-year-old nursing student allegedly hanged herself from a ceiling fan in her hostel room in this district on Wednesday, police said.

Rashmi was a second year student living in Nivedita Nurses Hostel run by the Ramakrishna Mission Sevashrama Hospital, Vrindavan. She belonged to Agra, they said.

"It is prima facie a suicide case. However, all angles are being looked into," SP (City) Martand Prakash Singh said.
