India: SC cancells Allahabad HC bail order to Ashish Mishra in farmers' killing case

New Delhi, Apr 18 (PTI) The Supreme Court on Monday cancelled the bail granted by the Allahabad High Court to Ashish Mishra, son of Union minister Ajay Mishra, in the Lakhimpur Kheri violence case.

A special bench of Chief Justice N V Ramana and Justices Surya Kant and Hima Kohli also asked the accused to surrender in a week's time.

India: Varun fined for driving bike without helmet, is not it a sort of Bawaal?

Bollywood actor Varun Dhawan was fined with a traffic challan while shooting for his upcoming movie Bawaal, here.

On April 14, the actor shot a few sequences in the city's busiest regions.

As the actor looked busy with the shoot, he was reportedly seen riding a motorcycle without a helmet in the footage.

Also, there was a phoney number plate on the motorcycle, which was also against the rules, and a new challan would be issued soon.

Kanpur: It was on Sunday night the extra prayer of Taraweeh concludes at a mosque in Jajmau.

It took more than two weeks to complete as the prayer began on the night of moon sight and was completed on April 17.

The devout remained present in sufficient number every day. The upper-storey mosque did not remain devoid of the devout any single day. 

Though the mosque is not very large, the elders and the youngsters attended the prayer. It has rightly been said that the month of Ramadan attracts devout in a large number.

India’s COVID-19 Tally Rises To 43,042,097, Active Cases Continue To Rise

NEW DELHI, Apr 17 (NNN-PTI) – India’s COVID-19 tally rose to 43,042,097 today, as 1,150 new cases were registered during the past 24 hours across the country, showed the federal health ministry’s latest data.

Besides, four deaths due to the pandemic since yesterday morning, took the death toll to 521,751.

There are still 11,558 active COVID-19 cases in the country, with a rise of 192 active cases during the past 24 hours. This was the fourth consecutive day, after a gap of 78 days, when the number of active cases rose in the country.

14 arrested after communal violence in Indian capital

NEW DELHI (AP) — Police in India’s capital have arrested 14 people after communal violence broke out during a Hindu religious procession, leaving several injured, local media reported Sunday.

The suspects were arrested on charges of rioting and criminal conspiracy, among others, following the incident on Saturday night, said senior police officer Usha Rangnani, according to the Press Trust of India news agency.

At least nine people, including eight police officers, were injured and were being treated in hospitals, Rangnani said.

India: Congress wins Kolhapur North byelection in Maharashtra

Kolhapur, Apr 16 (PTI) In a boost for the ruling Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) combine in Maharashtra, Congress on Saturday won the byelection to the Kolhapur North Assembly constituency, retaining the seat by defeating the BJP by over 19,000 votes.

Congress is a prominent member of the MVA coalition along with the NCP and Shiv Sena.

Congress-MVA candidate Jayashri Jadhav bagged 97,332 votes while the BJP's Satyajeet Kadam polled 78,025 votes.

Clashes erupt in Indian capital during Hindu procession

NEW DELHI, April 16 (Reuters) - Clashes broke out during a Hindu religious procession in the Indian capital New Delhi on Saturday, injuring several people, including policemen, police said, days after similar religious violence in three states.

Eyewitnesses told Reuters that the violence erupted between Muslims and Hindus during the procession in Jahangirpuri, a suburb of New Delhi. Police said they were still investigating.

India: RSS worker hacked to death in Kerala

Palakkad (Ker), Apr 16 (PTI) An RSS worker was hacked to death by a gang here on Saturday afternoon, police said.

Srinivasan, 45, was attacked by a group of assailants at his shop in the heart of Palakkad town.

The suspects reportedly arrived at the spot on motorbikes. The victim was immediately shifted to a private hospital but could not be saved, they said.

The incident occurred less than 24 hours after a Popular Front of India (PFI) leader was killed in a village near here.
