India: SBI hikes lending rate by 0.1 pc; EMIs to go up

New Delhi, Apr 19 (PTI) The country's largest lender State Bank of India (SBI) has raised its marginal cost of funds based lending rate (MCLR) by 10 basis points (bps) or 0.1 per cent across all tenures, a move that will lead to an increase in EMIs for borrowers.

The lending rate revision by SBI is likely to be followed by other banks in the days to come.

Indian Rupee falls 22 paise to close at 76.51 against US dollar

Mumbai, Apr 19 (PTI) The rupee fell 22 paise to close at 76.51 (provisional) against the US dollar on Tuesday, tracking a strong American currency in the overseas market and significant foreign fund outflows.

At the interbank foreign exchange market, the rupee opened at 76.34 against the American currency and settled at 76.51, down 22 paise from the previous close.

India: Auto, taxi unions in Delhi on strike to demand CNG subsidy, fare hike

New Delhi, Apr 18 (PTI) Various auto-rickshaw, cab and taxi unions in the national capital went on a strike on Monday, demanding a CNG subsidy and a fare revision in the wake of rising fuel prices.

Delhi Auto Rickshaw Sangh General Secretary Rajendra Soni said they will also hold a protest outside Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal's residence in Civil Lines later in the day to press their demands.

India: AIMIM urges Azam Khan to join party

Prayagraj (UP), Apr 17 (PTI) Asaduddin Owaisi's AIMIM has urged former Uttar Pradesh minister Azam Khan to join the party, days after a close aide of the leader accused the Samajwadi Party of ignoring him.

"You are requested to join the AIMIM so that BJP and the SP could be eliminated from Uttar Pradesh," said AIMIM state spokesperson Mohammad Farhan in a letter to the Samajwadi Party MLA.

India: BJP govt ruined health services in UP: Akhilesh

Lucknow, Apr 17 (PTI) Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav on Sunday accused the ruling BJP of "ruining" the health services in the state, alleging that poor are "dying" due to lack of treatment.

"The BJP government has ruined the health services in the state. People were orphaned during the coronavirus pandemic. Even today, there is no sign of improvement and chaos is prevailing," he alleged.

India: BJP was behind the Jahangirpuri violence: AAP

New Delhi, Apr 17 (PTI) The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Sunday alleged that the BJP was behind the violence during the Hanuman Jayanti procession in northwest Delhi's Jahangirpuri.

The party's reaction came after Delhi BJP president Adesh Gupta alleged that the violence was the result of the AAP government aiding illegal stay of Rohingya and Bangladeshi immigrants.

The BJP leader also alleged that one of the arrested accused in the violence was an AAP activist.

India: Three die, eight critical in fierce van-truck collision in Kanpur

Kanpur: The van full of processions had a fierce collision with the truck. In this road accident, three people died on the spot, while the condition of eight people is critical.

The injured were earlier admitted to CHC Ghatampur, but in view of their critical condition, they have been referred to the district hospital.

This road accident occurred in front of Mughal Road block of Ghatampur town. At the same time, the collision between the van and the truck was so strong that the van was blown away.

Indian Rupee slips 6 paise to 76.25 against US dollar

Mumbai, Apr 18 (PTI) The rupee declined 6 paise to close at 76.25 (provisional) against the US dollar on Monday, tracking the strength of the greenback overseas and elevated crude oil prices.

At the interbank foreign exchange market, the rupee opened lower at 76.41 against the American currency, and finally settled for the day at 76.25, down 6 paise over its previous close.
