Hyderabad, Aug 23 (PTI) A 53-year-old man has been sentenced to five years rigorous imprisonment and fined Rs 5,000 by a local court here for sexually assaulting his daughter.

Lingam Kumar, a resident of Alwal here, repeatedly sexually assaulted the girl for two years when she was just ten years, the Cyberabad Police said in a press release on Friday.

In July 2014, she informed her school teacher about her condition following which the district child protection unit was alerted.

Mumbai, Aug 23 (PTI) The Nationalist Congress Party said on Friday that the measures announced by Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman to prop up the slowing economy came too late.

Commenting on Sitharaman's announcements, NCP spokesperson Mahesh Tapase said there was no "roadmap of growth".

"The announcements have come very late and at a time when the economy is facing uncertainty and there is no roadmap of growth," he said.

As a controversy broke out over the issue, Endowment Minister Vellampalli Srinivas said the tickets were not meant for Tirupati and an inquiry has been ordered.

NEW DELHI (Reuters) - India’s top opposition leaders including former Congress president Rahul Gandhi went ahead with their plans to visit the Kashmir valley in defiance of requests from local authorities not to do so.

The local administration of Jammu and Kashmir will not allow the opposition members to leave the airport at Srinagar, the state’s main city, and have booked a return flight to New Delhi a few hours after they land, top officials told Reuters.

Jammu, Aug 23 (PTI) Authorities in Jammu and Kashmir's Kathua district on Friday imposed a fine of nearly Rs 5 crore on three stone crusher units for illegal storage and consumption of raw material, an official spokesperson said.

The fines were imposed by the District Mining Department to ensure strict enforcement of the Jammu and Kashmir Minor Minerals Concession, Storage, Transportation of Minerals and Prevention of Illegal Mining Rules, he said.

Srinagar, Aug 24 (PTI) Restrictions were lifted in most areas of Kashmir on Saturday, a day after strict curbs on the movement of people were imposed in the valley in view of the Friday prayers and the proposed march of separatists to the local United Nations military observer group office.

Officials said people were allowed to move freely even as deployment of security forces continued on the ground.

New Delhi, Aug 24 (PTI) BJP stalwart and former finance minister Arun Jaitley died on Saturday at AIIMS. He was 66.

In a brief statement, the hospital said Jaitley died at 12.07 pm.

It is with profound grief that we inform about the sad demise of Arun Jaitley, former Finance Minister of Government of India, at 12.07 pm on August 24, the AIIMS said.

Jaitley was admitted to the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) here on August 9 and was treated by a multi-disciplinary team of senior doctors.

Srinagar, Aug 23; GANASHAKTI: Restrictions were imposed in Srinagar city on Friday after posters issued by the separatists called on people to march to the local United Nations military observer group office, officials said.

Restrictions were eased in most areas of Kashmir this week, with barricades being lifted and the movement of people and traffic increasing gradually, but markets remained shut and mobile and Internet services suspended for the 18th day on Thursday.
