India: City's car market brings disappointment among sellers

Kanpur: What to say of new cars, old ones are not entertaining demands for sale in the city's biggest market. The city's market gazers are totally in a perplexing position.

According to the old car sellers they used to sell about two hundreds cars earlier but now the slump in the automobile sector has affected its sale badly. Association president A Awasthi said the number of members has even reduced to 50 from a total of 187 members. No buyer comes to take an old car at present.

Beyond this disadvantage, the showroom employees are being entrenched in the midst of sale continuously going downward. As many as 30 employees of a showroom have been removed.

The showroom owners bemoaned that they had only hope of sale during the marriage season. Whether it be Mahindra, Maruti or Hyundai, the sale has been decreasing.

They categorically pointed out that the sale of cars in different company's variety was far better in the past days than the present. There was a time when buyers were kept in wait for the car. For the choice of colour, the waiting list was also long.

Along with this bike and scooty were also not showing satisfactory position in the sale. According to one estimate, ten per cent sale in scooty and bike was seen.

We are hopeless but confident too as the market will pick up. What is not good at this time could be better tomorrow,  expected one showroom owner. It was quite strange that one particular brand of Maruti company has not been pulling the customers in this ongoing month.
