Guwahati, Dec 16 (PTI) A total of seven flights to and from Guwahati was cancelled on Monday, while no passenger train ran from the Northeast towards the Eastern states following damage to railway properties in West Bengal during protests against the amended Citizenship Act, officials said.

At least three such trains including Agartala Bangalore Humsafar Express scheduled to leave on Tuesday were also cancelled.

Bhubaneswar, Dec 16 (PTI) Two girls were allegedly raped in separate incidents in Odisha on Monday, police said.

A differently-abled tribal girl was allegedly raped by her neighbour in Nilagiri area of Balasore district, a police officer said.

Jodhpur (R'than), Dec 16 (PTI) A man accused of raping a girl allegedly barged into her house in Rajasthan's Pali district, stabbing the minor's father to death and injuring her brother and mother, police said on Monday.

The incident on Sunday night led to protests as irate villagers demanded suspension of the Sadri police station incharge for his alleged negligence in acting on the repeated complaints of threats to the family by the accused. The protesters also refused to allow the post-mortem of the body on Monday.

Nagpur, Dec 16 (PTI) Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray on Monday night said the Shiv Sena will remain "Hindutva-vadi" (pro-Hindu) and that it has not "converted", as far as the ideology is concerned.

Addressing a gathering of Shiv Sena workers in Nagpur, Thackeray, who heads the party, said the BJP-led Central government seemingly had no idea on where and how to settle Hindus and other immigrants who are set to get Indian citizenship under the new law (CAA).

Patna, Dec 17 (PTI) Blaming porn sites for the rising incidents of sexual crime against women, Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi urging him to ban all "porn sites and inappropriate content" available online.

In the letter, Kumar expressed his "pain and serious concern" over the increasing number of gangrape cases which have agitated the general public.

Pune, Dec 17 (PTI) Students of the Fergusson College in Maharashtra's Pune city took out a rally on the campus on Tuesday and held a signature campaign against the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) and National Register of Citizens (NRC).

They had earlier sought permission from Pune police to stage a protest and conduct a signature campaign at the main gate of the college, but it was denied, Santosh Rasve, a student from the college, said.

New Delhi, Dec 17 (PTI) Ten people with criminal background have been arrested for their alleged involvement in the violence near Jamia Millia Islamia University here, police said on Tuesday, adding that none of them were students.

The accused were arrested on Monday night, they said.

Sources said that the accused were identified through videos taken during the anti-Citizenship Amendment Act protest at JMI on Sunday.

Vadodara, Dec 17 (PTI) Five students of the Maharaja Sayajirao University here were arrested on Tuesday for allegedly making objectionable graffiti, which included the word 'Modi', to protest the new Citizenship Act, police said.

The students, from the university's Fine Arts faculty, made the 'swastika' sign with black spray colour in place of 'o' in the word 'Modi', a police official said.

New Delhi, Dec 17 (PTI) Chief Justice S A Bobde recused himself on Tuesday from hearing the plea of convict Akshay Kumar Singh seeking review of the 2017 apex court judgment upholding his death penalty in the Nirbhaya gang rape-and-murder case.

At the outset, a special bench comprising CJI and Justices R Banumathi and Ashok Bhushan made it clear that review pleas has to be heard by another appropriate bench.
