Trump writes to Imran Khan; seeks help in bringing Taliban to negotiating table

Islamabad, Dec 3 (PTI) US President Donald Trump has written to Prime Minister Imran Khan, seeking Pakistan's support in bringing the Taliban to the negotiating table to end the 17-year brutal war in trouble-torn Afghanistan, officials here said on Monday.

The development came weeks after Trump said Pakistan does not do "a damn thing" for the US, alleging that Islamabad had helped al-Qaeda chief Osama bin Laden hide near its garrison city of Abbottabad.

Sikh pilgrims gather at Gurdwara Punja Sahib in Pakistan

Islamabad, Nov 26 (PTI) Thousands of Sikh pilgrims from across the world have gathered at Gurdwara Punja Sahib in Pakistan's Punjab province to celebrate the 549th birth anniversary of Sikhim's founder Guru Nanak Dev.

Security was beefed up in and around the gurdwara - one of the most sacred places of Sikh religion - where dozens of officials from the security agencies were deployed, Dawn reported on Monday.

Last month, Tehreek-i-Labbaik Pakistan (TLP) disrupted daily life across Pakistan by staging widespread protests following Bibi's acquittal in a blasphemy case by the apex court.

Baluchistan separatists attack Chinese Consulate in Pakistan

KARACHI, Pakistan (AP) — Armed separatists stormed the Chinese Consulate in Pakistan’s southern port city of Karachi on Friday, triggering an intense hour-long shootout during which two Pakistani civilians, two police officers and all three assailants were killed, Pakistani officials said.

The killed Pakistani civilians were a father and a son had come to the consulate to pick up their visas to China, police said.

Mobile phone services shut in Pakistan's major cities

Islamabad, Nov 21 (PTI) Mobile phone services were shut down in Pakistan's major cities on Wednesday as the authorities beefed up security to prevent terror attacks during the Eid Milad-un Nabi celebrations, in the wake of a suicide attack in neighbouring Afghanistan that killed over 50 people, mostly clerics.

Officials said the security was tightened to avert any tragedy on the occasion of the Eid Milad-un Nabi, marking the birth anniversary of the Prophet.

However, internet services were available but faced periodic glitches.

Indian fire 'effectively responded': Pak Army

Islamabad, Nov 19 (PTI) Pakistan Army said on Monday that despite restricted liberty of action due to presence of "our Kashmiri brethren" on both sides of the Line of Control (LoC), Indian fire is always "effectively responded".

Army spokesman Major General Asif Ghafoor made the comments while talking to a group of journalists from Pakistan-occupied Kashmir and Hazara Division of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa.

Pakistan may receive first tranche of Saudi money Monday

ISLAMABAD, Nov. 18 (Xinhua) -- Pakistan's Federal Minister for Finance, Revenues, and Economic Affairs Asad Umar said on Sunday that the country is likely to receive the first tranche of aid worth 1 billion U.S. dollars from Saudi Arabia on Monday.

Talking to local media in Islamabad, Asad Umar said that the second and the third tranche of the Saudi money are expected to reach Pakistan over the course of the next two months.

Pakistan seizes Indian and other DTH worth Rs 7.83 cr

Islamabad, Nov 8 (PTI) Pakistan authorities have seized smuggled Indian and other Direct-To-Home (DTH) equipment worth Rs 7.83 crore from various markets in a nation-wide crack down against the illegal devices, revealed a report.

The report was submitted to the Supreme Court on Wednesday after it took up a suo motu case relating to easy availability of Indian DTH or magic box in the Pakistani market.

The DTH Satellite TV is the latest technology to deliver digital TV satellite service to households.

Pakistan PM Imran Khan wishes Hindu community on Diwali

Islamabad, Nov 7 (PTI) Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan on Wednesday extended his good wishes to the Hindu community on the occasion of Diwali, the festival of lights.

"Wishing all our Hindu citizens a happy Diwali," Khan tweeted.

National Assembly Speaker Asad Qaiser also greeted Hindu parliamentarians and the Hindu community.

"Pakistan is a pluralistic country and enriched with cultural diversity," he said.

China, Pakistan ink agreements on bilateral cooperation

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan; 4 Nov 2018; AA:China and Pakistan on Saturday signed 15 agreements and memorandum of understandings (MoUs) for cooperation in diverse fields, including poverty alleviation, agriculture and transfer of electronics, local media reported.

The agreements were signed in a delegation level talks between the Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan and his Chinese counterpart Li Keqiang at the Great Hall of the people in Beijing, according state-run Radio Pakistan. 

Khan is currently on a four-day official visit to China.
