India: Man held for molesting woman at railway station in Maha

Thane, Sep 24 (PTI) A 21-year-old man has been arrested for allegedly molesting a woman at a railway station in Maharashtra's Thane district, railway police said on Friday.

The Vasai Railway police have arrested the accused Raju Pappu Yadav under sections 354(A) (assault or using criminal force to any woman) and other relevant provisions of the IPC, senior inspector Sachin Ingawale said.

India: Tuition teacher held for molesting girl student in Maha

Thane, Sep 23 (PTI) A private tutor was arrested on Thursday at Kalyan in Thane district of Maharashtra for allegedly molesting a eight-year-old girl student, police said.

The accused, Mudar Talwala, was arrested under IPC section 354 (assault or criminal force to woman with intent to outrage her modesty) and sections of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, they said.

India: FIR against BJP worker for `molesting' woman colleague

Mumbai, Sep 22 (PTI) A First Information Report (FIR) was registered against a BJP worker here on Wednesday for allegedly molesting a colleague, police said.

According to the complainant, the incident took place last year when she was trying to join the party.

The accused, who had promised to help her become a BJP member, molested her inside the office of a party corporator in suburban Borivali, she alleged.

A case under IPC section 354 (molestation) was registered but no arrest has been made so far, a police official said.

India: Man held for raping woman on promise of work in Mumbai

Mumbai, Sep 21 (PTI) A 35-year-old man has been arrested for allegedly raping a woman from Jharkhand on the promise of getting her a job in the city, police said on Tuesday.

The matter came to light when the 32-year-old woman lodged a complaint with the Bandra police last week, following which the accused identified as Raju was arrested, an official said.

According to the police, the victim had recently moved to the city from Jharkhand in search of work and was living with her sister in Nalasopara.

India: Porn case: Look-out notice issued against two accused

Mumbai, Sep 21 (PTI) The crime branch of Mumbai Police has issued a look-out notice against two absconding accused in the pornography case allegedly involving businessman Raj Kundra.

The notice was issued against Yash Thakur alias Arvind Srivastava and Pardeep Bakshi on Sunday, a police official said.

Bakshi was allegedly connected directly to Kundra, while Thakur was also wanted in the case, he said.

The charge sheet filed in the case names the duo, the official added.

India: Elgar case: court rejects medical bail plea of Shoma Sen

Mumbai, Sep 21 (PTI) A special NIA court here on Tuesday rejected an application filed by academician Shoma Sen, an accused in the Elgar Parishad-Maoist links case, seeking interim medical bail.

Judge D E Kothalikar rejected 61-year-old Sen's plea.

Her application had cited her age and claimed that she suffered from multiple ailments including osteoarthritis, glaucoma and high blood pressure which could make her vulnerable to COVID-19.

India: ARAI develops charger for EVs

Pune, Sep 21 (PTI) The Automotive Research Association of India (ARAI) has indigenously developed a charger for electric vehicles to give a push to the EV ecosystem in the country, as per a statement.

ARAI Director Reji Mathai said to promote EVs, infrastructure for charging is important and since the mobility chargers are imported, the association's focus is to develop these indigenously, which will be cost-effective and boost the local economy.

India: Astrological incompatibility can't be an excuse to go back on marriage promise: HC

Mumbai, Sep 21 (PTI) The Bombay High Court refused to discharge a 32-year-old man from a rape and cheating case noting that he had used astrological incompatibility of horoscopes as an excuse to resile from his promise to marry the complainant woman with whom he was in a relationship.

A single bench of Justice S K Shinde on Monday rejected an application filed by Avishek Mitra seeking to be discharged from the cheating and rape case registered against him by the suburban Borivali police on a complaint lodged by the woman.

India: Retail depositors earning negative returns on their bank deposits

Mumbai, Sep 21 (PTI) Retail depositors are earning negative returns on their bank deposits and hence, there is a need for reviewing taxes on interest earned, economists at the country's largest lender SBI have said.

If not for all the depositors, the taxation review should be carried out for at least the deposits made by senior citizens who depend on the interest for their daily needs, the economists led by Soumya Kanti Ghosh said in a note, which pegged the overall retail deposits in the system at Rs 102 lakh crore.

India: Raped girl commits suicide after rapist released on bail

Nagpur, Sep 15 (PTI) A 16-year-old girl allegedly committed suicide after the man accused of raping her was recently released from jail on bail in Maharashtra's Nagpur city, police said on Wednesday.

The girl, who lived with her father, stepmother and brother, allegedly hanged herself from the ceiling at her home in Jaripatka area on Monday, senior inspector Nitin Phatangare of Jaripatka police station said.
