India: Tension after Muslim family assaulted by Hindutva activists

Gurgaon, 23 Mar 2019; Two days after a group of Hindutva activists terrorised a Muslim family, vandalised their house, beaten the family members and their guests, and stole jewellery and cash, community members assembled outside the house of Shamshad, the victim.

Tension has prevailed in the area since the horrific attack even as police arrested six accused.

India: 20-25 Hidutva men vandalise Muslim home, beat and rob family

Members of a Muslim family in Gurgaon’s Dhamaspur village and guests were beaten with sticks and rods, allegedly by 20-25 men, who barged into their home and attacked them on Holi evening.

Incident happened after some of the accused approached the boys from the family, who were playing cricket outside. They harassed the boys  and told them to “go to Pakistan and play” there.

Two Kashmiri shawl vendors attacked in Indian train

New Delhi, Feb 20 (PTI) Two Kashmiri shawl vendors have claimed they were beaten up and called "stone pelters" by unidentified men on a train, forcing them to cut short their business trip to Rohtak, officials said Wednesday.

The incident comes amid reports of some Kashmiri people claiming they were being targeted in many parts of the country in the aftermath of the February 14 attack on a CRPF convoy in Pulwama that left over 40 personnel dead.

India: Jind bypolls: Digvijay Chautala of JJP leading

Jind (Har), Jan 31 (PTI) The candidate of the month-old Jannayak Janata Party, Digvijay Singh Chautala, was leading over his nearest BJP rival Krishan Middha, as per early trends available for the high-stakes Jind bypoll in Haryana.

As per early trends available after counting of votes at the end of third of the total 13 rounds, Chautala was leading over Middha by margin of nearly 1,900 votes.

India: 25% voter turnout in first few hours of Jind bypoll

Jind (Har), Jan 28 (PTI) Nearly 25 per cent polling was recorded in the first few hours of the ongoing high-stake bypoll to the Jind assembly constituency in Haryana on Monday.

Polling began at 7 am and will continue till 5 pm.

In the first two hours, 15 per cent voters had exercised their franchise and by 10:30 am, the poll percentage rose to nearly 25 per cent, officials said here.

People, including nonagenarians, queued up outside polling stations since early morning despite cold weather conditions.

Delhi CM Kejriwal hits out at Modi on crop insurance scheme, casteism

Jind, Jan 26 (PTI) AAP national convener Arvind Kejriwal Saturday hit out at Prime Minister Narendra Modi over his government's crop insurance scheme alleging it has failed to benefit the farming community and charged the NDA with dividing the society on caste lines.

The Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojna (PMFBY) is aimed at enabling farmers avail insurance cover against crop loss due to natural calamities.
