Pakistan's media watchdog takes action against cable operators for airing Indian channels illegally

Lahore, Apr 27 (PTI) Pakistan's electronic media watchdog on Thursday took action against more than 50 cable operators across the country and seized their equipment for illegally airing Indian channels and content, days after they were warned that stringent action would be taken if they were found violating its orders.

Pakistan: President Alvi happy over recovery of Erdogan from illness

ISLAMABAD, Apr 27 (APP): President Dr Arif Alvi on Thursday expressed his gladness as his Turkish counterpart Recep Tayyip Erdogan recovered from illness.

“I am glad that our friend Recep Tayyip Erdogan has recovered from an episode of ill health. Alhamdulillah,” the president wrote on Twitter.

He said that more than their personal friendship, the centuries-old love between the two people had been carried well by President Erdogan.

“May Allah keep you safe and healthy,” he remarked.

7 killed in fire on passenger train in southern Pakistan

KARACHI, April 27 (NNN-AGENCIES) — At least seven people were killed after a car on a moving passenger train caught fire overnight in southern Pakistan, officials said Thursday.

Railways official Mohsin Sial said the train caught fire in Khairpur, a district about 500 kilometers north of Karachi, the capital of Sindh province. He said six people were killed in the blaze while a woman died when she jumped from the window of the moving train.

The blaze also badly damaged several other cars in the train, he said, and the cause remained unclear.

9 killed in truck-van collision in Pakistan’s Sindh

ISLAMABAD, April 26 (NNN-XINHUA) — At least nine people were killed late Tuesday night in a road accident in the Thatta district of Pakistan’s southern Sindh province, the rescue department told Xinhua on early Wednesday morning.

 Sindh Integrated Emergency & Health Services said that a truck hit a van from the front near the Chillia area of Thatta.

 All nine people on board in the van were killed on the spot after their vehicle was crushed by the speeding truck on the highway.

Death toll from NW Pakistan explosions rises to 17

ISLAMABAD, April 25 (Xinhua) -- The death toll from Monday's twin explosions in a police station in Pakistan's Swat district of the northwestern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) province rose to 17 on Tuesday, with at least 70 others injured, health and police officials said.

Confirming the casualties, KP Health Secretary Mahmood Aslam Wazir told Xinhua that the death toll increased after several injured succumbed to their injuries and more bodies were recovered from the debris of the police station building that collapsed following the powerful blasts.

Pakistan: 10 killed in suicide attack at Pak police station in Swat Valley

Peshawar, Apr 24 (PTI) At least 10 people, including eight policemen, were killed and over 20 injured in a "suicide attack" at a police station in Pakistan's restive northwest Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province on Monday, authorities said.

The blast took place at the Kabal police station in Swat Valley.

The police station premises also has the Counter Terrorism Department and a mosque.

Foreign Secretary, Pakistan Missions discuss safe, quick evacuation of Pakistanis from Sudan

ISLAMABAD, Apr 22 (APP): Foreign Secretary Asad Majeed Khan on Saturday held a follow-up virtual meeting with Pakistan’s missions in Sudan and neighboring countries to discuss modalities for the safe evacuation of Pakistanis from Sudan.

The representatives from PIA, Ministry of Overseas Pakistanis and other relevant agencies also joined the meeting.

The participants had an in-depth discussion on finalizing plans for safely and quickly evacuating Pakistani citizens from Sudan.

Pakistan: Bilawal, Iranian counterpart exchange Eid greetings

ISLAMABAD, Apr 22 (APP): Minister for Foreign Affairs Bilawal Bhutto Zardari Saturday telephoned his Iranian counterpart Hossein Amir-Abdollahian and exchanged Eid greetings with him.
The Iranian Foreign Minister expressed his best wishes for the people of Pakistan.
Similarly, Bilawal Bhutto extended his felicitations to the people of Iran.
While talking to his Iranian counterpart, Bilawal said the restoration of diplomatic relations between Iran and Saudi Arabia was a positive development.

Pakistan: Earth Day celebrated to seek more awareness among masses to conserve earth resources

ISLAMABAD, Apr 22 (APP):The World Earth Day despite Eid-ul-Fitr was celebrated across the country on Saturday seeking more awareness among the masses to conserve the earth and its natural resources facing extreme pressure threats due to global warming and climate change.

The United Nations calls the event ‘International Mother Earth Day’. This year’s theme was continued as the important theme for a second year “Invest In Our Planet”.

The Earth Day is usually celebrated with outdoor performances, where individuals or groups perform acts of service to Earth.
