Pakistan: President says he held good meetings with his Bangladeshi counterpart

ISLAMABAD, July 3 (APP): President Dr Arif Alvi on Monday said that he held good meetings with Bangladesh President Shahabuddin in Makkah, Mina and Madina.

On his Twitter handle, the president posted twin pictures and informed that in white was his childhood friend Salman Rehman, who is now a Member of Parliament, Minister and Advisor in Bangladesh.

“We met after 60 years (yrs). Blessings of Allah will do wonders for our relationship,” he further added.

The president has been in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to perform Hajj.

Islamabad, Jul 3 (PTI) Debt-trapped Pakistan will become the fourth largest IMF borrower in the world after receiving a fresh loan of USD 3 billion in the next nine months under the standby arrangement reached with the global lender.

Pakistan, which is facing its worst economic crisis since independence from Britain in 1947, was on March 31, 2023, ranked fifth in the list of countries with the highest borrowing from the International Monetary Fund (IMF), The Express Tribune newspaper reported, citing the global lender's data.

2 soldiers killed in shootout when militants ambush troops in southwest Pakistan, military says

QUETTA, Pakistan (AP) — A group of militants ambushed troops during a search operation against insurgents in a remote area in southwestern Pakistan, triggering a shootout that left an army major and a junior officer dead, the military said Monday.

There was no immediate claim of responsibility for Sunday’s ambush near Balor in Baluchistan province, but Pakistani Taliban and small separatist groups have claimed similar attacks in the past.

The military identified the two killed as Saqib Hussain and Naik Baqir Ali. Another soldier was injured, the statement said.

Six Terrorists Killed In Separate Clashes With Security Forces In NW Pakistan

ISLAMABAD, Jul 1 (NNN-APP) – Six terrorists were killed in two separate clashes between security forces and terrorists, in Pakistan’s north-west Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, a military statement said, late last night.

Three terrorists were killed in an exchange of fire late Thursday night, in the Manzai area of the Tank district, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the media wing of the Pakistan army, said, in a statement.

Pakistan: Six active terrorists killed in different operations held in Tank, North Waziristan

RAWALPINDI, Jun 30 (APP): The security forces on Friday killed six active terrorists involved in various hostile and terror activities against the forces and innocent civilians amid successful operations in Tank and North Waziristan districts.

According to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), an exchange of fire took place between the army troops and terrorists in the general area of Manzai, Tank District on the night of June 29-30.

The troops effectively engaged the terrorists’ location and resultantly, three of them were sent to hell.

Pakistan gets a lifeline from the IMF with a new $3 billion bailout to help avoid default

ISLAMABAD (AP) — The International Monetary Fund has agreed to provide $3 billion to Pakistan in badly needed relief to help bail out the impoverished country’s ailing economy.

The nine-month agreement must be approved by the IMF’s Executive Board, which is expected to make a final decision in mid-July, a top IMF official, Nathan Porter, said in a statement late Thursday.

Pakistan, EU agree to intensify cooperation in fight against human trafficking

ISLAMABAD, June 28 (APP): Pakistan and the European Union have agreed to intensify cooperation in the fight against smuggling of migrants and trafficking in human beings.

The two sides emphasised the importance of comprehensive cooperation on migration management, including return and readmission under the framework of Pakistan-EU Joint Readmission Agreement.

The EU expressed sincere condolences on the loss of Pakistani lives in a tragic shipwreck on the Mediterranean Sea.
