Srinagar, June 27: A Kashmiri has been killed in an alleged encounter with Indian security in Tral of Jammu and Kashmir's Pulwama district of Indian administered Kashmir, an Indian official said.

The Indian security forces' spokesperson alleged that a cordon and search operation was underway in the area following information about presence of Kashmiri separatist.

New Delhi, Jun 27 (PTI) Senior BJP leader Vijay Goel Thursday demanded a ban on lottery in the country, saying it is a social evil and hurts the poor the most.

Raising the matter during the Zero Hour in the Rajya Sabha, Goel said single digit lottery has been banned and now even multi-digit number lotteries too should be banned.

He said lottery is a social evil and poor people suffer.

Goel said all parties should support his demand. Several members across the House associated themselves with the suggestion.

26 June 2019; MEMO: Israel’s decision to block the transfer of fuel to the occupied Gaza Strip was slammed as “cruel, illegal, and immoral” Tuesday by human rights NGO Gisha.

In an urgent letter to Israeli authorities, Gisha said the move “must be reversed immediately”.

Earlier Tuesday morning, Israel announced that it was halting the transfer of fuel used to operate the sole power plant in the Gaza Strip.

26 June 2019; MEMO: A parliamentary bloc in Jordan has adopted a memorandum of distrust against the government of Prime Minister Omar Razzaz due to its participation in the Bahrain workshop, which will lay out the economic aspect of the deal of the century.

The parliamentary reform bloc, which is affiliated to the Islamic Movement in Jordan, conveyed a message in a statement to the Speaker of the House of Representatives on Tuesday, condemning Jordan’s participation in the Bahrain conference.

26 June 2019; MEMO: Oman announced today that it will open an embassy in the occupied West Bank.

In a tweet, Oman’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs wrote: “In continuation of the Sultanate’s support for the Palestinian people, the Sultanate has decided to open a new diplomatic mission to the State of Palestine at the level of an embassy.”

The ministry also said that a delegation “will travel to Ramallah to initiate the opening of the embassy,” without providing further details or a timescale.

26 June 2019; DW: A right wing terror group was allegedly planning a civil war-like rebellion in Berlin before they were stopped by police. Chemnitz has emerged as a center of extreme-right groups.

German prosecutors charged a right-wing group with terrorism offenses, officials confirmed on Tuesday.

Members of Revolution Chemnitz were alleged to have the formed the group in September with the intention of planning and carrying out terror attacks.

Guwahati, Jun 26 (PTI) Over one lakh people were Wednesday excluded from the draft National Register of Citizens (NRC) in Assam after they were found ineligible, adding to the 40 lakh names left out of the list published on July 30 last year.

According to a statement issued by the state coordinator of NRC, 1,02,462 persons were declared ineligible during the process of verification carried out by the Local Registrars of Citizens Registration (LRCRs).

New Delhi, Jun 25 (PTI) The Election Commission came under sharp criticsm from the BSP and TMC in Rajya Sabha on Tuesday, with its members demanding electoral reforms and future elections on ballot paper and not EVMs.

The BJP, however, countered those opposing the EC saying raising questions on the poll body was like pointing fingers at the Constitution.

BSP member Satish Chandra Misra accused the EC of allying with the NDA and said the ruling dispensation in the President's speech has rightly thanked the EC.

Jamshedpur, Jun 25 (PTI) A convict serving a 10-year sentence in a dowry case was beaten to death by other inmates following a clash inside the Ghaghidih Central Jail here Tuesday, police said.

Manoj Singh was beaten to death by some jail inmates belonging to one Pankaj Dubey gang following an altercation, East Singhbhum district Senior Superintendent of Police Anoop Birtheray said.

He said the clash broke out after Manoj Singh beat up some inmates belonging to the gang and in retaliation, the gang members lynched Singh.

25 June 2019; MEMO: The Kuwaiti parliament announced yesterday that it will boycott the Manama conference and has stressed its support for Palestinian rights.

In a statement read during an open meeting, Parliament Speaker Marzouq Al-Ghanim said: “Kuwait is a supporter of occupied Palestine and rejects normalising ties with Israel.”
