New Delhi, Dec 27 (PTI) Jamia Millia Islamia students on Friday observed a day-long hunger strike against alleged police brutality during the protests against the amended citizenship law.

Kolkata, Dec 27 (PTI) The opposition Left Front and the Congress on Friday took out a joint rally in the city to protest against the contentious amended Citizenship Act and the proposed National Register of Citizens.

The rally was led by West Bengal Congress president Somen Mitra, Left Front chairman Biman Bose and senior CPI(M) leader Surjya Kanta Mishra from Subodh Mullick Square to Mahajati Sadan in central Kolkata.

Hyderabad, Dec 28 (PTI) The National Population Register (NPR) and National Register of Citizens (NRC) are two sides of a coin, AIMIM president Asaduddin Owaisi has said.

His claim comes a day after Union Minister G Kishan Reddy had clarified that there was no link between the two.

"Home Minister Amit Shah said there is no difference between NPR and NRC. I am telling you that NPR and NRC are two sides of a coin. The rules of NPR and NRC are the same.

Kozhikode/Thiruvananthapuram, Dec 26 (PTI): Hundreds of students, women, youth and folk artistes on Thursday took out separate protest marches in Kozhikode against the amended Citizenship Act.

Women activists, belonging to the Indian Union Muslim League (IUML), also marched against the CAA holding aloft banners stating "stop murder of democracy" and also sat in front of Akashvani here in protest.

In another march, theatre artistes, mime and folk artistes took out a massive procession from the Mananchira Grounds in the port city.

Bhaderwah/Jammu, Dec 26 (PTI) A total of 18 shops were gutted in a mysterious fire in Jammu and Kashmir's Doda district, officials said on Thursday.

A fire broke out in a shop and spread to other shops in Gandoh belt of district last night, they said.

The fire was brought under control, but 18 shops were gutted in the fire, they said.

People of the area demanded a probe into incident.

Mumbai, Dec 26 (PTI) Journalists' organisations here on Thursday staged a demonstration against attacks on media persons during the coverage of protests against the Citizenship (Amendment) Act, and the high-handed behaviour of police.

They also slammed the government's tendency to suspend of Internet during such agitations, and the recent advisories to news channels which warned against "anti-national attitudes".
