Three Killed, Three Wounded In Car Bomb Blast In Afghanistan’s Herat Province

HERAT, Apr 20 (NNN-AGENCIES) – Three people, including an assailant, were killed and three others wounded, when a suicide car bomb rocked a police station, in Afghanistan’s western province of Herat early today, the provincial governor confirmed.

“The incident occurred outside the police station of Ghoryan district, in the western part of Herat, roughly at 2:00 a.m. Tuesday, local time,” Governor Sayyed Waheed Qatali, said.

Local IS leader killed by gov't forces in eastern Afghanistan

KABUL, April 18 (Xinhua) -- A local Islamic State (IS) leader was killed by Afghan Special Forces in the country's eastern Nangarhar province Saturday night, National Directorate of Security (NDS), the country's national intelligence agency, confirmed on Sunday.

"Acting on a confirmed tip-off, the NDS Special Operations Forces conducted an operation in Kuz Kunar district, Nangarhar province, to arrest Kamin, known as Hakimullah, one of the IS newly designated local leaders," the agency said on Twitter.

Car bomb kills 3 policemen in western Afghanistan

HERAT, Afghanistan, April 17 (Xinhua) -- Three policemen were killed in a car bomb attack by the Taliban militants in Zanda Jan district in Afghanistan's western Herat province on Friday, provincial governor Sayed Wahid Qatali said Saturday.

Taliban militants detonated an explosive-laden car next to the police checkpoint in Bazarak area of Zanda Jan district at 10:00 p.m. local time Friday, killing three policemen. The Taliban militants also fired at the security forces stationed there, according to the official.

Four Civilians Killed In Improvised Bomb Blast In S. Afghanistan

KANDAHAR, Apr 16 (NNN-AGENCIES) – Four civilians were killed in an improvised bomb blast in Afghanistan’s southern province of Kandahar last night, local police confirmed today.

“The victims, including a woman and two children, were members of a family. The blast which occurred in Zartali locality of Shah Wali Kot district, also destroyed their vehicle,” provincial police spokesman, Jamal Barakzai, said.

Relatives of the victims were notified by the district police, he said.

Many Afghans feel U.S. is leaving them at mercy of resurgent Taliban

KABUL (Reuters) - Many Afghans believe that the United States is putting them at the mercy of hardline Islamist Taliban insurgents after President Joe Biden’s announcement that U.S. troops will leave the country by Sept. 11.

The withdrawal date was pushed back four months from the May 1 deadline agreed to between the Washington and the insurgents last year - but, this time, there have been no conditions attached to the pullout.

Fighting kills, injures nearly 1,800 Afghans in first three months of 2021: U.N.

KABUL (Reuters) - Nearly 1,800 Afghan civilians were killed or wounded in the first three months of 2021 during fighting between government forces and Taliban insurgents despite efforts to find peace, the United Nations said in a new findings on Wednesday.

Fighting has increased in several parts of Afghanistan in recent weeks while the peace process between both warring sides has made no progress despite international calls to reduce violence.

Afghans Call For Cease-Fire During Ramadan

KABUL, Apr 12 (NNN-XINHUA) – War-weary Afghans are calling for a cease-fire to be observed during the Muslim fasting month of Ramadan, which starts on Apr 13, this year (tomorrow).

In war-battered Afghanistan, fighting and violence have been continuing, and in the latest wave, over 50 people, including Taliban militants, government security personnel and civilians were killed, according to sources and local media reports.

An explosive device went off in Imam Sahib district of the northern Kunduz province yesterday, killing two civilians and injuring another.

Taliban attack repulsed, 5 killed in N. Afghanistan

KUNDUZ, Afghanistan, April 11 (Xinhua) -- A Taliban militants' attempt to gain ground outside Kunduz city, the capital of northern Kunduz province, has been foiled, provincial government spokesman Esmatullah Muradi said.

A group of Taliban militants, according to the official, stormed police checkpoints in Ibrahim Khil area outside Kunduz city Sunday morning, triggering a gun battle which lasted for a couple of hours, and the militants fled away after leaving three bodied behind.

Two policemen were also killed in the fighting, the official confirmed.

Insurgency, war leave 92 dead in Afghanistan in 24 hrs: monitor agency

KABUL, April 10 (Xinhua) -- Ninety-two people have been killed in insurgency and war in Afghanistan since Friday morning, an independent local war monitoring group said on Saturday.

"Within the past 24 hours, our team has documented 92 deaths, including two civilians, 27 Afghan National Defense and Security Forces (ANDSF) members, and 63 Taliban militants," Reduction in Violence (RiV) confirmed on its twitter account.

Another 51 Taliban militants and seven ANDSF members were also wounded during the cited period.

Afghans work to stem polio rise amid violence, pandemic

KABUL, Afghanistan (AP) — Afghanistan is trying to inoculate millions of children against polio after pandemic lockdowns stalled the effort to eradicate the crippling disease. But the recent killing of three vaccinators points to the dangers facing the campaign as turmoil grows in the country.

The three women were gunned down in two separate attacks on March 30 as they carried out door-to-door vaccinations in the eastern city of Jalalabad.
