Bombing of Gaza hospital: Russia, UAE call for emergency UN Security Council meeting Wednesday: diplomat

MOSCOW, Oct 18 (NNN-AGENCIES) — Russia and the United Arab Emirates called Tuesday for an emergency United Nations Security Council meeting following the deadly strike on a hospital in the Gaza Strip that left at least 200 dead.
 
“Russia and the United Arab Emirates have called for an urgent public meeting of the United Nations Security Council in the morning of October 18 over the strike on a Gaza hospital,” the Russian ambassador to the UN, Dmitry Polyanski, said on Telegram.
 

Putin filmed in China accompanied by officers with Russian nuclear briefcase

MOSCOW, Oct 18 (Reuters) - Rare footage was shown on Wednesday of Russian President Vladimir Putin in Beijing accompanied by officers carrying the so-called nuclear briefcase which can be used to order a nuclear strike.

Putin, after a meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping in Beijing, was filmed walking to another meeting surrounded by security and followed by two Russian naval officers in uniform each carrying a briefcase. The camera zooms in on one of the briefcases.

Russia: Medvedev blames U.S. for "war crime" in Gaza hospital strike

MOSCOW, Oct. 18 (Xinhua) -- Deputy Chairman of the Russian Security Council Dmitry Medvedev on Wednesday denounced the strike on a hospital in the Gaza Strip a "monstrous" war crime, for which the United States bears responsibility.

"The monstrous strike on a hospital in the Gaza Strip is undoubtedly a war crime," Medvedev wrote on his social media channel.

Russian diplomat slams PACE resolution disavowing Putin's standing as president after 2024

Russian Duma takes first step to revoke ratification of nuclear test ban treaty

MOSCOW, Oct 17 (Reuters) - Russia's parliament took the first step on Tuesday towards revoking ratification of the Comprehensive Nuclear Test Ban Treaty and its top lawmaker warned the United States that Moscow might even abandon the pact altogether.

Russia says the aim is to restore parity with the United States, which has signed but never ratified the 1996 treaty, and that it will not resume testing unless Washington does.

Israel to minimize casualties during operation in Gaza — ambassador to Russia

MOSCOW, October 16. /TASS/: Israel will seek to minimize civilian casualties during the ground operation in the Gaza Strip, Israeli Ambassador to Russia Alexander Ben Zvi has told TASS.

"Of course, there is a wish to reduce civilian casualties as much as possible, as much as possible," Ben Zvi said in response to a related question.

He added that the safety of civilians was a factor taken into consideration in planning a ground operation.

Russian air defenses down two Ukrainian MiG-29 fighters, Su-25 attack plane in past day

MOSCOW, October 16. /TASS/: Russian air defense forces shot down two Ukrainian MiG-29 fighters and a Su-25 attack aircraft over the past day in the special military operation in Ukraine, Russia’s Defense Ministry reported on Monday.

"Air defense capabilities shot down two Ukrainian Air Force MiG-29 fighters and a Su-25 attack plane in areas near Arkhangelskoye in the Kherson Region, Dmitrovka and Zvonetskoye in the Dnepropetrovsk Region," the ministry said in a statement.
