Venezuelan President Appointed New FM, State Oil Company Chief

CARACAS, Jan 8 (NNN-ABN) – Venezuelan President, Nicolas Maduro, appointed Yvan Gil, as the new foreign affairs minister, and Pedro Tellechea, as the new president of state-owned oil company, Petroleos de Venezuela S.A.

“It’s a great responsibility. I’m sure he will perform with great professionalism,” Maduro said of Gil, on his Twitter account.

The new foreign minister replaces Carlos Faria, whom Maduro thanked for “outstanding work,” adding that, Carlos will be assigned new tasks soon.

Exiled Venezuela lawmakers chosen to lead anti-Maduro fight

CARACAS, Venezuela (AP) — Venezuela’s opposition has selected an all-female team of mostly unknown exiled former lawmakers to replace the beleaguered Juan Guaidó as the face of its faltering efforts to remove socialist President Nicolas Maduro.

Last week, politicians who were elected to the National Assembly in 2015 voted to oust Guaidó from his role as “interim president,” a title he claimed as head of what was widely considered the South American nation’s last democratically-elected institution.

Some 259 Venezuelans return home from Peru

CARACAS, Dec 17 (NNN-PRENSA LATINA) — A new group of 259 people returned to Venezuela from Peru as part of the Return to the Homeland Plan, the People’s Foreign Affairs Ministry reported.    

The deputy minister for Latin America and the Caribbean, Rander Peña, welcomed the Venezuelans who arrived at the international airport of Maiquetía, La Guaira state, on behalf of President Nicolas Maduro and Foreign Minister Carlos Faria.

The group is composed of 67 children, 21 teenagers, 78 young people, 69 adults, and 11 senior citizens, according to the source.

Iran oil tanker arrives in Venezuela

06 Dec 2022; MEMO: An Iranian tanker carrying about 2 million barrels of ultra light-oil arrived this week in Venezuelan waters, non-government organisation, United Against Nuclear Iran, said on Tuesday, Reuters reports.

Venezuela and Iran have recently expanded cooperation mainly through a swap that provides Venezuela's state-run oil company, PDVSA, with light oil for refining and diluents to produce exportable crude grades. PDVSA, in return, supplies Iran with Venezuelan heavy oil and fuel.

Venezuela opens tourism offices in Russia, Mexico, Cuba and Iran

CARACAS, Nov 27 (NNN-PRENSA LATINA) — Venezolana de Turismo announced the opening of commercial offices in Russia, Mexico, Cuba and Iran in the framework of the International Tourism Fair (FITVen), held in Anzoategui state on its third day on Saturday.    

This initiative seeks to position the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela as a megadiverse, inclusive, peaceful and open to future destinations, under the policies promoted by the Maduro administration in order to turn tourism into one of its main economic engines.

Colombian gov’t, ELN resume peace talks in Caracas

CARACAS, Nov 23 (NNN-MERCOPRESS) — Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro said that “time for peace has arrived” as dignitaries from the Colombian government and the National Liberation Army (ELN) guerrillas started their ceasefire talks in Caracas Monday.

“Here is the hand of the Venezuelan people to tell President Gustavo Petro and Colombia that they can count on us for total peace,” Maduro went on.

He also said in his broadcast message that the new discussions represented a “message of hope” that has “all the support of the Venezuelan people.”

4 people killed in northeast Venezuela by heavy rains, mudslides

CARACAS, Nov. 4 (Xinhua) -- At least four people were killed by heavy rains and mudslides that hit the northeastern Venezuelan state of Anzoategui, Governor Luis Jose Marcano said Friday.

The Anzoategui governor's office posted on its Twitter account that the rains affected the Guanta and Sotillo municipalities in the northern part of the state, while heavy rains also caused road closures to the state of Sucre.

Colombian, Venezuelan Legislators Met On Normalising Ties

CARACAS, Oct 23 (NNN-ABN) – Legislative delegations from Venezuela’s National Assembly and Colombia’s Congress met on Friday, to set up working commissions for normalising bilateral ties, said Venezuelan lawmaker, Jorge Rodriguez.

Speaking from the Simon Bolivar International Bridge that links the two countries across their shared border, the president of Venezuela’s National Assembly, described it as “a historic meeting after so many years of difficulties.”

Venezuela flooding death toll rises after three perish near Maracay

MARACAY, Oct 18 (Reuters) - Flooding in Venezuela's central Aragua state killed at least three people on Monday, adding to the death toll from weeks of intense rains, authorities said.

A downpour on Monday afternoon caused a dam to overflow, causing a flood that carried rocks, trees and mud down a main road in El Castano, a suburb of the city of Maracay about 119 kilometers (74 miles) southwest of the capital Caracas.

Authorities said multiple families had to be rescued, and that a total of around 50 families were impacted.
