India: Kangana slap row: Farmer outfits take out march in support of CISF woman constable

CHANDIGARH: Several farmer outfits, including the Samyukta Kisan Morcha (Non-Political) and the Kisan Mazdoor Morcha, on Sunday took out a march in Mohali in support of the CISF woman constable, who allegedly slapped actor and BJP MP-elect Kangana Ranaut.

Farmer leaders demanded that a fair investigation should be conducted into the matter while asserting that there should not be any injustice with the woman constable Kulwinder Kaur.

Adequate security personnel were deployed in the wake of the march, which began from Gurdwara Amb Sahib in Mohali.

 

Sudan: 40 dead as Rapid Support Forces bomb areas in Khartoum

08 June 2024; MEMO: At least 40 people were reported dead following artillery bombardment by the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) in the Omdurman area of Sudan’s capital Khartoum on Friday, Anadolu Agency reports.

The local Karari Resistance Committee said in a statement that certain residential areas in Omdurman were subjected to intense artillery bombardment by the RSF.

According to the statement, there have been 40 confirmed deaths and over 50 injuries, suggesting that the number of dead and injured could increase.

07 June 2024; MEMO: Saudi Arabia is poised to raise more than $11.2 billion from its secondary offering of oil giant Aramco’s shares, after pricing them towards the lower end of a price range at 27.25 riyals ($7.27), people familiar with the matter told Reuters today.

Aramco did not immediately give a comment. The Saudi government communications office did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

AMARAVATI: Telugu Desam Party Lok Sabha members from Andhra Pradesh, K Ram Mohan Naidu and Chandra Sekhar Pemmasani, are likely to be inducted into the Union Cabinet led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi that would be sworn in on Sunday.

According to a post on 'X' by former TDP MP Galla Jayadev, Naidu, Srikakula Lok Sabha member will get a Cabinet minister post, while Pemmasani, Guntur MP, would get a minister of state berth.

India: Noida man gets 10-year jail for raping minor, 5 years for abducting her

NOIDA: A court in the Gautam Buddh Nagar district has sentenced a man to 10 years of rigorous imprisonment for raping a minor girl and another five years for abducting her with an intention to compel her for marriage.

Both the punishments would run concurrently, according to the order of the Special POCSO Court Judge (First) Vikas Nagar, who also slapped a penalty of Rs 55,000 on the convict.

India: Modi does not have mandate like Nehru did: Sudip Bandyopadhyay

NEW DELHI: Trinamool Congress leader Sudip Bandyopadhyay Sunday said Narendra Modi might be taking oath as prime minister for a third term, but he does not have a mandate like Jawaharlal Nehru, the only other PM to have three consecutive terms, had.

Bandyopadhyay, who was on Saturday re-elected as the leader of the TMC in Lok Sabha, also said the opposition will play a positive role in the functioning of parliament.

"People have given some opinion in his (PM Modi) favour... But it is not like Nehru ji (who) had the verdict behind him," he said.

USA: Wildfires In California Cause 52,000 Early Deaths In Decade: Study

SACRAMENTO, Jun 9 (NNN-XINHUA) – The U.S. state of California saw over 52,000 people die prematurely in a decade, due to smoke from wildfires, according to a new study.

The study, published in Science Advances, attributed an estimated number of 52,480 to 55,710 premature deaths to fine particulate matter (PM2.5) pollution, caused by wildfires, from 2008 to 2018, which translated to an economic impact of 432 billion to 456 billion U.S. dollars.

Palestinians seek to join Gaza genocide case at World Court

03 June 2024; MEMO: Palestinian authorities have filed an application with the International Court of Justice (ICJ) to join South Africa as a party in its Gaza genocide case against Israel, the Court said on Monday.

In a statement, the ICJ, also known as the World Court, said the Palestinian authorities “filed … an application for permission to intervene and a declaration of intervention in the (South Africa v. Israel) case”, Reuters reports.

03 June 2024; MEMO: Israeli opposition leader, Yair Lapid, renewed his offer on Monday to provide a “safety net” in the Knesset for Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, to pass a Gaza ceasefire and hostage swap deal with Hamas, Anadolu Agency reports.

“The Israeli government should agree to Netanyahu’s proposal, and send a delegation to Cairo today to finalise the details and bring home the men, the young women, the elderly, the soldiers and the female soldiers imprisoned in the tunnels,” Lapid wrote on X .
