Turkey, US forces conduct second joint patrol in Syria

24 Sep 2019; MEMO: Turkish and US forces have conducted their second joint ground patrol along the Syrian-Turkish border today, in preparation for the establishment of a planned safe zone in northern Syria.

A convoy of four armoured vehicles belonging to the Turkish armed forces from the south-eastern province of Sanliurfa crossed the Syrian border to meet with the US military convoy, aiming to conduct the land patrol in the Syrian town of Tal Abyad.

UN Envoy Concludes “Successful Talks” With Syrian FM

DAMASCUS, Sept 24 (NNN-SANA) – Geir Pedersen, UN special envoy for Syria, said, he concluded “very successful” discussions with Syria’s Foreign Minister, Walid al-Moallem, on the formation of a constitutional committee.

Pedersen, who arrived in Syria a day earlier, said, his Monday’s meeting with al-Moallem tackled old standing issues, regarding the formation of a constitutional committee that would be tasked with rewriting the Syrian constitution.

Russian military police ensure peace in Syria’s Quneitra province, chief says

GOLAN HEIGHTS /Syria/, September 23. /TASS/: Russian military police units deployed to the ceasefire line on the Golan Heights have secured stability and peace in Syria’s Quneitra province, Chief of the Russian Armed Forces’ Military Police in Syria Colonel Alexander Bezklubov told reporters.

According to him, since the Russian military drove militants out of the area a year ago, local residents have been reconstructing their destroyed homes and building new houses.

Syria's president accuses West of preventing return of Syrian refugees

DAMASCUS, Sept. 22 (Xinhua) -- Syrian President Bashar al-Assad on Sunday accused the Western countries of preventing the return of Syrian refugees to their country, the state news agency SANA reported.

Assad made the remarks during his meeting with a delegation of Italian lawmakers and politicians headed by Senator Paolo Romani in the capital Damascus.

According to the report, Assad said that the position of most European countries about events in Syria was detached from reality since the beginning of the crisis over eight years ago.

UN envoy for Syria says progress made on forming Syrian constitutional committee

DAMASCUS, Sept. 22 (Xinhua) -- Geir Pedersen, UN special envoy for Syria, said on Sunday that progress has been made on the formation of a Syrian constitutional committee.

Pedersen made the remarks upon arriving in the capital Damascus on Sunday evening, when he said that since his last visit to Syria in July, progress has been made on the formation of the constitutional committee that should be tasked with reviewing and amending the Syrian constitution.

He said he is looking forward to his Monday's meeting with Foreign Minister Walid al-Moallem in Damascus.

Syrian Army Increases Military Buildup Near Israeli-Occupied Golan Heights

DAMASCUS, Sept 22 (NNN-SANA) – The Syrian army brought in reinforcements to areas in southern Syria, close to the border with the Israeli-occupied Golan Heights, on Saturday, a war monitor reported.

The military reinforcements were sent to the towns of Jamleh and Abdeen, in the western countryside of Daraa province in southern Syria, close to the Syrian border with the Israeli-occupied Golan Heights, said the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights.

Russia army destroys Israel drone in Damascus airspace: Report

21 Sep 2019; MEMO: On Thursday evening, the Russian Air Force destroyed an Israeli drone in the airspace of the Syrian capital of Damascus, Israeli website Hadashot 12 reported, through information gained from Russian sources.

According to the source, the drone was on its way to carry out an attack on a target in Damascus.

Syria’s Rukban Refugee Camp May Close In Late Oct

MOSCOW, Sept 19 (NNN-TASS) – The resettlement of refugees from the battered Rukban camp in southern Syria, may be completed in Oct, if U.S.-backed rebels don’t torpedo it, the Russian Defence Ministry said.

The Russian Centre for Reconciliation of the Opposing Parties and the Control of the Movement of Refugees in Syria, received the updated United Nations (UN) and Syrian Arab Red Crescent plan, for the removal of the remaining Rukban residents, the ministry said.
