13 Sep 2022; MEMO: Qatar has rejected the Israeli occupation state's demand that it should be allowed to open a temporary consulate in the Gulf State for the duration of the FIFA World Cup later this year. The Israeli government is said to have urged FIFA to put pressure on Doha for this to be allowed.

Qatar's emir meets Libya's parliament speaker

11 Sep 2022; MEMO: Qatar's Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani met on Sunday with Libya's Parliament Speaker Aguila Saleh to discuss cooperation between the two sides, Anadolu Agency reported.

A statement by the emir's office, the Emiri Court, said the parliament speaker briefed the Qatari ruler on the latest developments in Libya.

Talks between the two sides dwelt on bilateral cooperation, Libyan developments and a host of regional and international issues, the statement said.

Qatar calls on Israel to allow Palestinians to attend FIFA World Cup

The request was made during conversations between officials in anticipation of a period of open diplomatic relations between the two countries.

EU opens office in gas-rich Qatar amid energy crisis

07 Sep 2022; MEMO: The European Union opened an office in Qatar on Wednesday, in a sign of the Gulf State's growing influence in solving the international energy crisis, local Qatari media reports.

According to the report, EU Council President, Charles Michel, was to meet the Emir of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani, and other top officials in Doha later in the day.

Qatar telecommunications company will sell Myanmar unit to Singapore

06 Sep 2022; MEMO: Qatari telecommunications company, Ooredoo, plans to sell its Myanmar operations to Singapore-headquartered technology firm, The One Matrix Ventures (TOMV), according to three people with direct knowledge of the matter, Reuters reports.

According to the report, TOMV is in talks with several potential partners in Myanmar to join the deal to help secure regulatory approval, without providing further details.

Qatar and Malaysia discuss enhanced defence cooperation

06 Sep 2022; MEMO: Qatar and Malaysia are discussing ways to enhance their defence cooperation, especially with regard to their air forces, the defence ministry in Doha said on Sunday. Talks have been held between the Deputy Commander of Al-Zaeem Mohammed Bin Abdullah Al-Attiya Air Academy, Brigadier General (Pilot) Ali Salem Al-Athba, and the Commander of the Malaysian Air Force, Tan Sri Dato Mohd Khan Goriman.

Talks fail to establish Israeli consular office in Qatar

01 September 2022; MEMO: Secret talks between Israel and Qatar have failed to lead to the opening of an Israeli consular office in Doha to facilitate the arrival of thousands of Israeli football fans to the World Cup, Israel's i24News reported.

The channel said talks collapsed ahead of a planned phone call between Israeli Foreign Minister and interim Prime Minister Yair Lapid and his Qatari counterpart Sheikh Mohammed Bin Abdulrahman Al Thani over Lapid's insistence on making the call public, which Qatar has strongly rejected.

Pakistan attaches high importance to its fraternal ties with Qatar: PM

Qatar, Gulf States to assist Pakistan with $4bn

24 August 2022; MEMO: Gulf Arab States are set to provide Pakistan with a total of around $4 billion to help alleviate its severe financial crisis.

According to the news outlet, Bloomberg, the State Bank of Pakistan's acting Governor, Murtaza Syed, said in a briefing that Qatar will provide $2 billion in bilateral assistance to the South Asian country.
