Bahrain open to imports from Israeli settlements, Palestinians fume

JERUSALEM (Reuters) - Bahrain’s imports from Israel will not be subject to distinctions between products made within Israel and those from settlements in occupied territory, the Bahraini trade minister said on Thursday, drawing a rebuke from the Palestinians.

Bahrain and the United Arab Emirates formalised ties with Israel on Sept. 15, in a U.S.-sponsored deal billed by the Gulf countries as being made possible by Israel’s shelving of a plan to annex West Bank settlements. Most world powers deem them illegal.

Israel transfers $1.14bn in tax revenues to PA

03 Dec 2020; MEMO:  The Israeli occupation authorities have transferred $1.14 billion in tax revenues to the Palestinian Authority (PA) on Wednesday, according to the Palestinian minister of civil affairs.

As stated by Anadolu Agency, Hussein Al-Sheikh posted on Twitter that Israel: "Transferred [to the PA] all the due tax revenues amounting to 3.76 billion shekels ($1.14 billion)."

Israel edges towards early election amid Netanyahu-Gantz feud

02 Dec 2020; MEMO:  Israel edged closer on Wednesday towards a fourth national election in two years after Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's main governing partner, Benny Gantz, backed an opposition move to dissolve parliament, Reuters reports.

Parliament gave preliminary approval to a dissolution bill, but the legislation needs to pass three as yet unscheduled votes to become law, giving Netanyahu and Gantz, the defence minister, more time to work out differences over a national budget.

Israel expects $220 million in non-defence trade with Bahrain in 2021

JERUSALEM (Reuters) - Israel foresees $220 million in non-defence trade with Bahrain in 2021, the Economy Ministry said on Wednesday as it hosted a delegation from the Gulf state to cement newly established ties.

Bahrain and neighbour the United Arab Emirates normalised relations with Israel on Sept. 15, a U.S.-brokered pact motivated by business prospects as well as shared worries about Iran.

Israeli parliament okays preliminary vote to disperse

JERUSALEM, Dec. 2 (Xinhua) -- Israeli parliament on Wednesday voted in favor of a bill to disperse itself, in a move that could force a fourth election within two years.

Some 61 lawmakers voted in favor of the bill, while 54 voted against it. The bill still needs to undergo three more full rounds of votes before getting its final approval.

Israel committed 414 violations against Palestinian journalists in 2020

29 Nov 2020; MEMO: Israeli occupation forces committed 414 violations against Palestinian journalists since start of the year, Quds Press reported yesterday.

The Journalists' Support Committee said in a statement that Israeli occupation forces "intentionally attack journalists" in an attempt to "suppress the truth about their violations".

Israel: Hundreds protest outside Netanyahu's Jerusalem home

Jerusalem, Nov 29 (AP-PTI) About 1,000 protesters gathered outside Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's official residence in Jerusalem on Saturday night, pressing ahead with their months-long campaign demanding his resignation.

A mix of grassroots groups have held the weekly protests, saying Netanyahu should step down while he is on trial for corruption and because of his handling of the coronavirus in Israel.

Netanyahu promises 'the best medical treatment in the world' to Pollard's wife

26 Nov 2020; MEMO: Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has promised to offer the best medical care to Esther Pollard, the wife of the Jewish spy who was paroled after 30 years in US prisons, Jonathan Pollard, Israeli media reported on Wednesday.

Israeli Ynet News disclosed that Pollard's wife is undergoing medical treatment in New York for cancer, pointing out that Netanyahu promised first-class medical care for her.
