Jerusalem, Jun 14 (PTI) Israel's new government will work to "advance strategic relations" with India, Alternate Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Yair Lapid said on Monday, a day after Naftali Bennett became the new premier ending Benjamin Netanyahu's 12-year hold on power.

"I look forward to working together to advance the strategic relations between our countries and hope to welcome you to Israel soon," Lapid tweeted in response to a congratulatory message from External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar.

(Reuters) --- Israel's new foreign minister said on Monday that Israel must change the way it deals with U.S. Democrats, who he said had been abandoned by former prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

"The Republicans are important to us, but not just them. We find ourselves, as you know well, facing a Democratic White House, a Democratic Senate and a Democratic Congress," Yair Lapid told Israeli diplomats. "And these Democrats are angry."

JERUSALEM (AP) — For the first time in 12 years, Israelis on Monday woke up to a new government and a new prime minister after Naftali Bennett secured the backing of parliament and ousted longtime leader Benjamin Netanyahu.

The two were slated to hold a handover meeting later in the day, but without the formal ceremony that traditionally accompanies a change in government.

JERUSALEM, Jun 13 (NNN-WAFA) – A 28-year-old Palestinian woman was shot dead yesterday, by an Israeli security guard, at the Qalandiya checkpoint, in the West Bank, the Israeli police said.

The woman, a resident of the Palestinian refugee camp, Aqabat Jaber, near the city of Jericho, approached the cars, crossing at the checkpoint, manned by Israeli border police and civilian security guards, and ran towards them holding a knife in her hand, according to the police.

JERUSALEM (AP) — Israel is set to swear in a new government on Sunday that will send Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu into the opposition after a record 12 years in office and a political crisis that sparked four elections in two years.

Naftali Bennett, the head of a small ultranationalist party, will take over as prime minister. But if he wants to keep the job, he will have to maintain an unwieldy coalition of parties from the political right, left and center.

11 June 2021; MEMO: The Israeli Mayor of Lod city, Yair Revivo, along with members of the religious nationalist movement known as the "Torah Nucleus" yesterday stormed an Arab primary school in the city in an effort to confiscate its playground to include it into the grounds of a Jewish school, Arab48 reported.

The move was carried out under the full protection of Israeli Police.

The longtime leader is accusing his opponents of betraying their voters, and some have needed special security protection.

Netanyahu says he is the victim of a “deep state” conspiracy. He speaks in apocalyptic terms when talking about the country without his leadership.

"The IDF [army] has many tasks. To win the war – we are developing methods that we enjoy the fruits of. The State of Israel must and will continue to ensure the power of the IDF. In the quality of the servants first and foremost, and secondly in reasonable budgets … It is impossible to do all this without money," he said.
