India: 3 hospitals turn away 2 women, 1 dies

Thane, May 31 (PTI) The Thane police have registered criminal cases against the management of three hospitals for turning away two patients amid the coronavirus outbreak, one of whom was pregnant and died in an autorickshaw, an official said on Sunday.

The three hospitals are located in Mumbra in Thane municipal limits and have been sealed by the civic body, the official said.

India: Maha govt extends lockdown in state till June 30

Mumbai, May 31 (PTI) The Maharashtra government on Sunday extended till June 30 the lockdown in the entire state, and announced easing of restrictions and phase-wise resumption of activities under the "Mission Begin Again".

As per the revised guidelines issued on Sunday, all markets, market areas and shops, except malls, will be allowed to functionfrom June 5 on odd-even basis.

While all private offices can operate with up to 10 per cent their employee strength as per the requirement from June 8 with others working from home.

India records highest single-day spike of 8,380 corona cases; death toll climbs to 5,164

New Delhi, May 31 (PTI) India registered its highest single-day spike of COVID-19 cases on Sunday with 8,380 new infections reported in the last 24 hours, taking the country's tally to 1,82,143, while the death toll rose to 5,164, according to the Union Health Ministry.

The number of active COVID-19 cases stood to 89,995, while 86,983 people have recovered and one patient has migrated, it said.

"Thus, around 47.75 per cent patients have recovered so far," a senior health ministry official said.

The total confirmed cases includes foreigners.

Cuba Backs WHO After U.S. Announces Terminating Relationship

HAVANA, May 31 (NNN-PRENSA LATINA) – The Cuban government declared, on Saturday, its full support of the World Health Organisation (WHO), after the United States announced it is terminating its relationship with the global organisation.

Cuban Foreign Minister, Bruno Rodriguez wrote on his Twitter account that, Cuba lends “its full support” to WHO and its management of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Myanmar: All Gov’t Staff To Return To Work From Tomorrow

YANGON, May 31 (NNN-MNA) – The Myanmar government has ordered all staff to return to work as usual, starting tomorrow, a government official told a press briefing on Saturday.

“Due to the COVID-19 outbreak, the government ordered half of the staff to stay at home in recent months,” said Zaw Htay, spokesperson of the President’s Office.

The offices must follow the health measures issued by the Ministry of Health and Sports, he said.

Meanwhile, basic education schools will be reopened in mid-July.

UK COVID-19 Deaths Rise To 38,376 As Another 215 Patients Die

LONDON, May 31 (NNN-AGENCIES) – Another 215 COVID-19 patients died in Britain, as of Friday afternoon, bringing the total death toll in the country to 38,376, Culture Secretary, Oliver Dowden, said Saturday.

The figures include deaths in all settings, including hospitals, care homes and the wider community.

Chairing Saturday’s Downing Street daily briefing, Dowden said, Britons will be able to exercise outside with up to five others from different households from Monday, provided that strict social distancing guidelines are followed.

Delhi has 102 corona containment zones at present

New Delhi, May 29(PTI) The number of containment zones in Delhi has gone up to 102 with the city reporting over 2,000 fresh coronavirus positive cases in past two days, Delhi government officials said.

The districts with higher containment zones included North (21), South-East (16), South (13), South West (12) and North West (10), official figures showed.

The districts with lower number of containment zones are West Delhi and New Delhi, three each, North-East (4) and East (5), the figures showed.

India: Quarantined man ends life in Maha, another found dead

Chandrapur, May 30 (PTI) A 30-year-old man allegedly committed suicide while he was kept under institutional quarantine at the city-based Government Engineering College (GEC), where one more person was found dead, officials said on Saturday.

The bodies of the two men were found on Saturday morning, a statement issued by the district information office (DIO) said.

India: Cong accuses Guj govt of hiding actual COVID-19 figures

Ahmedabad, May 30 (PTI) The Gujarat Congress accused the state government of hiding the actual figures of COVID-19 cases by earlier reducing the number of tests and now by not sharing proper information with the public to portray a rosy picture that infections had reduced in the state.

The Congress alleged that the BJP-led government had removed certain information from its coronavirus dashboard, stopped daily briefings and has not shared district-wise figures with people of the state.

Indian Parliament sanitised after latest case of coronavirus

New Delhi, May 30 (PTI) Government agencies undertook a massive drive on Saturday to sanitise all buildings in the Parliament House Complex after a fourth case of COVID-19 was reported from the complex, officials said.

Of the four cases, three had contracted the infection after Parliament resumed on May 3, when Lockdown 2.0 ended. A Rajya Sabha Secretariat official tested positive for COVID-19 on Friday, they said.
