India: Petrol, diesel prices on the rise again

New Delhi, Oct 7 (PTI) Within a day of the one-off excise duty cut and PSUs subsidising fuel, petrol and diesel prices are on the rise again and have hit a three week high.

Petrol and diesel prices were cut by a minimum Rs 2.50 on October 5 when the government's only second cut in excise duty of Rs 1.50 per litre and state-owned fuel retailers providing a Re 1 per litre subsidy came into effect. In BJP-ruled states, the reduction was higher as they matched the cut with a similar reduction local sales tax or VAT.

Eight pacts signed after Modi-Putin summit

New Delhi, Oct 5; PTI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Russian President Vladimir Putin Friday held the India-Russia annual summit after which eight pacts, including on cooperation on India's ambitious human space mission project Gaganyaan, were signed.

Official sources said the two countries also signed the USD 5 billion S-400 air defence system deal after talks between the two leaders in Hyderabad House.

India: Self-styled godman held for stealing mobile phones

New Delhi, Oct 5 (PTI) A self-styled godman was arrested for allegedly stealing mobile phone after taking lift from a truck on Outer Ring Road here, police said Friday.

The incident took place on Tuesday and the accused was identified as Mithun, they said.

The accused allegedly boarded the truck from Mukundpur Chowk to Burari. He apparently stole mobile phone and fled the spot in a car, they said.

A case was registered against him. He was arrested on Friday while the police were patrolling on Outer Ring Road.

EC announces dates for Assembly polls in five states

New Delhi, Oct 6 (PTI) The Election Commission (EC) on Saturday announced the dates for the Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Telangana and Mizoram Assembly polls.

While Chhattisgarh will go to the polls in two phases on November 12 and 20, the Madhya Pradesh and Mizoram Assembly elections will be held on November 28.

Polling in Rajasthan and Telangana will be held on December 7, announced Chief Election Commissioner (CEO) OP Rawat.

New US accusations do not hinder Putin-Modi talks, says Kremlin

NEW DELHI, October 5. /TASS/. The new round of the West’s accusations against Russia has not affected the course of the Russian-Indian talks Russian President Vladimir Putin is conducting in New Delhi, the Rossiya 24 TV channel quotes Russian Presidential Spokesman Dmitry Peskov as saying.

"Here [at the talks in the Indian capital] the agenda is more linked to real events and mutually beneficial cooperation," Peskov said. "It is free from hysterical manifestations."

Russia, India seal deal on supply of S-400 air defense systems

MOSCOW, October 5. /TASS/. Moscow and New Delhi have signed a contract on the supply of S-400 air defense systems to India.

"Yes, on the sidelines of the visit [of Vladimir Putin to India]," Russian presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov said when asked if the S-400 contract had been concluded.

Russian presidential aide Yuri Ushakov earlier told the media that as a result of the deal "India will have a modern air defense system boasting parameters that surpass those of similar systems of other countries."

Delhi HC acquits Suhaib Ilyasi in wife's murder case + Chronology of events

New Delhi, Oct 5 (PTI) The Delhi High Court Friday acquitted former TV anchor and producer Suhaib Ilyasi in his wife's murder case.

A bench of Justices S Muralidhar and Vinod Goel allowed the appeal of Ilyasi challenging his conviction and life imprisonment for killing his wife, Anju, 18 years ago.

"The appeal is allowed," the bench said.

Ilyasi's daughter Aaliya, who was present at the time of pronouncement of the verdict, expressed happiness and said she always had trust in her father.
