India: 2 Pinjra Tod women activists sent to police custody after getting bail in separate case

New Delhi, May 24 (PTI) Two Pinjra Tod women activists, who were granted bail on Sunday in a case related to the northeast Delhi communal violence, were sent to two days of police custody moments later in a separate murder case linked to the riots.

When Metropolitan Magistrate Ajeet Narayan granted bail to Natasha Narwal and Devangana Kalita in a rioting case, a Delhi Police crime branch investigating officer moved an application for their interrogation and arrest in a separate case of alleged murder of a local during the riots.

India: Domestic flights resume after two months

New Delhi, May 25 (PTI) Indian skies will open up for domestic passenger services from Monday after a gap of two months, with Delhi-Pune and Mumbai-Patna flights being among the first to take off, aviation industry sources said.

All scheduled commercial passenger flights have been suspended since March 25 when the government imposed a nationwide lockdown to curb the coronavirus pandemic.

India: Record 6,977 corona cases 24 hours; death toll climbs to 4,021

New Delhi, May 25 (PTI) India registered biggest single day spike of COVID-19 cases for the fourth consecutive day on Monday with 6,977 new infections, reported in the last 24 hours, taking the country's tally to 1,38,845, while the death toll rose to 4,021, according to the Union Health Ministry.

A total 154 deaths were reported in the last 24 hours till Monday 8 am.

The number of active COVID-19 cases climbed to 77,103 while 57,720 people have recovered and one patient has migrated, the ministry said.

India: Future actions to stimulate economy will depend on how COVID crisis pans out: FM

New Delhi, May 23 (PTI) A day after the RBI projected economic contraction in 2020-21, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Saturday said future fiscal policy actions to stimulate the economy will depend on how COVID-19 pandemic pans out.

The government has already announced a Rs 20.97 lakh crore economic package, which includes Reserve Bank's Rs 8.01 lakh crore worth of liquidity measures till May 17.

Delhi airport to resume operations from Monday

New Delhi, May 24 (PTI) As India is set to resume its domestic civil aviation operations from May 25, the Delhi airport will be handling around 380 flights on Monday, a senior official said.

As per the directions of the Civil Aviation Ministry, domestic flight operations will resume after remaining suspended for about two months following the nationwide lockdown imposed to constrain the COVID-19 pandemic.

India: 4 held for looting mangoes in broad daylight

New Delhi, May 23 (PTI) Four men have been arrested for allegedly looting the mangoes of a fruit seller in Shahdara's Jagatpuri area, police said on Saturday.

On the basis of video footage, the accused were arrested on Friday and Saturday. They live near Chandan Nagar, where the incident took place. The accused have been sent to judicial custody, they said.

On Friday, a 43-year-old fruit seller lodged a complaint with the police.

Chhote, the fruit seller, has allegedly that mangoes from his crates were stolen by passersby.

India: 2 women arrested for Jafrabad sit-in in Feb

New Delhi, May 23 (PTI) Delhi police on Saturday arrested two women in connection with a protest in Jafrabad area in February, officials said.

Natasha and Devangana belong to Pinjra Tod (Break the Cage) group, a collective of women students and alumni of colleges from across Delhi that seeks to make regulations for hostel and paying guest (PG) accommodation less restrictive for women students.

India: Conjoined twins separated at AIIMS after 24-hour surgery

New Delhi, May 24 (PTI) A pair of conjoined twins from Badaun in Uttar Pradesh who were joined at the hip and lower back have been separated following a 24-hour surgery at the AIIMS here, officials said.

The two-year-old girls had fused pelvis, spinal bones, spinal cord, intestines and shared a common rectum besides having abnormalities of the heart and major blood vessels, a senior doctor said.

India: Dean of medical school in Delhi tests positive for coronavirus

New Delhi, May 24 (PTI) The Dean of the Atal Bihari Vajpayee Institute of Medical Sciences at the Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital here has tested positive for coronavirus infection.

Dr Rajeev Sood, who is looking after the management of COVID-19 manpower at the hospital, tested positive for the infection on Saturday.

He is now under home isolation and contact tracing has been initiated by hospital authorities.
