Romanian new gov't sworn in

BUCHAREST, Nov. 4 (Xinhua) -- Romania's new cabinet headed by National Liberal leader Ludovic Orban took the oath of office late Monday before President Klaus Iohannis at the Cotroceni Presidential Palace.

Iohannis congratulated everyone in the National Liberal Party (PNL) who had done an "incredible" job and managed to convince the opposition parties and other parliamentarians to vote together for the new government.

"A very great achievement," he stressed.

Romania, Hungary recruit in Asia to fill labour shortage

BUCHAREST, Oct 28 (NNN-AGENCIES) — Sporting yellow safety helmets, about 30 men are busy at work on a construction site south of Bucharest, exchanging a few words in Vietnamese.

Faced with a growing labour shortage which threatens their economies, Romania and Hungary are courting Asian workers, going against Hungarian nationalist Prime Minister Viktor Orban’s anti-immigration rhetoric.

“My friend, my friend,” a Romanian worker says to his Vietnamese colleague in English at the Bucharest construction site, trying to break the language barrier.

Re-elected Romanian central bank governor sets joining Eurozone as main task

BUCHAREST, July 3 (Xinhua) -- The re-elected Romanian National Bank Governor Mugur Isarescu said on Wednesday that preparing the country to enter the Eurozone is the main task of the new board of directors he leads.

"This is a board where continuity combines with novelty, experience blends with youth," said Isarescu after Parliament appointed in a joint session the members to the new board of directors.

According to him, this new board will make every effort, use its entire professional capability to fulfill the mandate that is entrusted to it.

Turkish wrestler wins gold in European championships

14 Apr 2019; AA: Turkey's Atakan Yuksel won a gold medal in the 2019 European Wrestling Championships in Romania on Sunday. 

Competing in the men's 67-kg Greco-Roman category, Yuksel beat Polish competitor Gevorg Sahakyan 5-1 to claim the medal in the tournament in Bucharest.

So far, Turkey has won two golds, one silver and two bronze medals in the Greco-Roman category at the tournament.

WTO head calls for strengthening int'l economic system to confront challenges

BUCHAREST, Feb. 21 (Xinhua) -- World Trade Organisation (WTO) Director-General Roberto Azevedo on Thursday called for strengthening international economic system to confront significant challenges.

The current tensions among trade partners are a huge test for the WTO, Azevedo said here at an ongoing two-day meeting of trade ministers of the European Union (EU) member states.

The meeting is scheduled for Thursday and Friday under Romania's presidency of the EU Council.
