TONOPAH, Nev. (AP) — The Nye County Commission is used to dealing with all sorts of hot-button controversies.

Water rights, livestock rules and marijuana licenses are among the many local dramas that consume the time of the five commissioners in this vast swath of rural and deeply Republican Nevada. Last spring, it was something new: voting machines.

Deadpool: US mega drought spells trouble at Hoover Dam

But the mega drought affecting the western United States is sending reservoir levels plummeting towards deadpool — the point at which the dam can no longer produce power.
 

USA: Last Nevada county approves primary results after hand count

RENO, Nev. (AP) — Counties across Nevada on Friday certified the last outstanding results of the state’s June 14 primary election after critics questioned the tallies by recounting their own experiences at the polls and repeating conspiracy theories that nearly derailed certification in New Mexico last week.

Esmeralda County, Nevada’s smallest, became the last to certify its countywide results Friday night less than two hours before a midnight deadline.

USA: Election deniers quiet on fraud claims after primary wins

(AP) --- Nevada Republican Jim Marchant insisted there hadn’t been a legitimate election in his state in more than a decade. All of Nevada’s election winners since 2006, he said on a recent podcast, were “installed by the deep-state cabal.”

But when Marchant won the Republican nomination for Nevada secretary of state this week, he immediately celebrated the victory as legitimate.

“I am beyond humbled by the overwhelming support of our campaign. Nevadans made their voices heard,” Marchant declared on social media.

USA: Trump’s influence tested in S.C., Nevada GOP primaries

LAS VEGAS (AP) — Former President Donald Trump’s influence over the Republican Party was being tested in a Nevada primary Tuesday while his attempts to shape GOP contests across the country in South Carolina were having mixed results.

Nevada Republicans were deciding Tuesday between a candidate with a political pedigree and Trump’s backing or a political newcomer as their choice to try to unseat one of the most vulnerable Democratic senators in the country this fall.

USA: Amazon CEO Jassy says he wants to improve warehouse safety

(AP) --- In his first letter to Amazon shareholders, CEO Andy Jassy offered a defense of wages and benefits the company gives its warehouse workers while also vowing to improve injury rates inside the facilities.

Jassy, who took over from Amazon founder Jeff Bezos as CEO last July, wrote the company has researched and created a list of the top 100 “employee experience pain points” and is working to solve them.

US violence: Woman stabs man during date in revenge for Qassem Soleimani killing – Police

CARSON CITY (Nevada, US), March 14 (NNN-AGENCIES) — A woman stabbed her date whom she had met online in retaliation for the 2020 death of an Iranian military leader killed in an American drone strike, police said.

Nika Nikoubin, 21, has been charged with attempted murder, battery with a deadly weapon and burglary, KLAS-TV reported.

Nikoubin and the man met online on a dating website, Henderson police wrote in an arrest report. The pair then agreed to meet at Sunset Station hotel on March 5, renting a room together.

14 shot at Vegas hookah parlor; 1 dead and 2 critically hurt

LAS VEGAS (AP) — Fourteen people were shot during a party at a Las Vegas hookah lounge early Saturday, including one man who was killed and two others who were critically wounded.

The shooting happened about 3:15 a.m. and preliminary information indicated there was a party during which two people got into an altercation and exchanged gunfire, said police Capt. Dori Koren.

Koren told reporters no arrests have been made and no suspect descriptions were immediately available but that authorities did not believe there was any danger to the general public.

Western wildfires: California blaze crosses into Nevada: USA

GARDNERVILLE, Nev. (AP) — A Northern California wildfire crossed into Nevada, prompting new evacuations, but better weather has been helping crews battling the nation’s largest blaze in southern Oregon.

The Tamarack Fire south of Lake Tahoe had burned more than 68 square miles (176 square kilometers) of timber and head-high chaparral in national forest land. It erupted on July 4 and was one of nearly two dozen blazes sparked by lightning strikes.
