India: Cross-LoC trade remains suspended for second day

Jammu, Mar 14 (PTI) The cross-LoC trade between Poonch-Rawalakot remained suspended for the second day on Thursday even as there was no report of ceasefire violation by Pakistan along the Line of Control in Jammu and Kashmir, officials said.

It was suspended after five mortar shells hit the cross-LoC facilitation centre at Chakan-da-Bagh in Poonch district on Wednesday at around 12.30 pm, when the process of scanning of trucks was almost complete.

Though there were no casualties in the shelling, several sheds including the one housing the X-Ray scanner were damaged.

India: National Conference leader shot at in J-K's Anantnag

Kashmir, Mar 14, 2019: Mohammad Ismail Wani, a National Conference leader was shot at on Thursday by a gunman in Thajeewara area of Anantnag district of Jammu and Kashmir, police has said.

Wani was rushed to a nearby hospital, which referred him to a hospital in Srinagar, the official said.

"My @JKNC_ colleague Mohd Ismail Wani, block President Bijbehara block in South Kashmir of has been shot & injured. He has been referred to Srinagar. Praying for his recovery," party's vice-president Omar Abdullah tweeted.

Democracy in Kashmir captive to whims of rulers: NPP

Jammu, Mar 12 (PTI) Accusing the BJP-led government at the Centre of delaying assembly polls in Jammu and Kashmir, National Panthers Party Tuesday said the denial of democratic rights to people could prove counterproductive.

NPP chairman Harsh Dev Singh rued that the assembly elections was deferred in Jammu and Kashmir on "flimsy excuses" of security constraints.

Government denies ad, Kashmiri dailies leave front pages blank

Srinagar, Mar 10; PTI/GANASHAKTI:  Most of the leading dailies in the Kashmir valley printed a blank front page on Sunday as a mark of protest against the "unexplained denial" of advertisements to two newspapers by the Jammu and Kashmir government.

The Kashmir Editors' Guild (KEG) had claimed last month that the state government had stopped giving advertisements to two major local dailies -- Greater Kashmir and Kashmir Reader.

Kashmir: Mehbooba slams Centre over NIA summons to Farooq

Srinagar, Mar 10 (PTI) Former Jammu and Kashmir chief minister Mehbooba Mufti Sunday said the NIA summons to moderate Hurriyat Conference chairman Mirwaiz Umar Farooq were "emblematic" of the Centre's "repeated assaults on our religious identity".

Three Kashmiris killed by Indian security forces in Pulwama

Srinagar, Mar 10, 2019: Three Kashmiri separatists have been killed in an alleged encounter with by Indian security forces in Pulwama district of Jammu and Kashmir on Sunday, an Indian defence spokesman said.

It is alleged that Indian security forces launched a cordon and search operation in Pinglish in the Tral area of south Kashmir's Pulwama district after receiving specific intelligence input about the presence of separatists in the area.

Pakistani national repatriated by India as goodwill gesture

Jammu, Mar 9 (PTI) A 60-year-old Pakistani national, who mistakenly ventured into Indian territory, was repatriated as a goodwill gesture, a BSF spokesman said Saturday.

Mohammad Ashraf was apprehended soon after he intruded into this side from across the International Border in Samba district of Jammu and Kashmir.

Jammu & Kashmir teachers to be re-hired on contract basis

Jammu, Mar 9 (PTI) The Jammu and Kashmir administration has approved rehiring of lecturers and teachers on academic arrangement for continued academic activities, an official said on Saturday.

The sanction was accorded at the meeting of state administrative council (SAC), headed by Governor Satya Pal Malik, here on Friday, the official said.

The approval was granted to hire eligible lecturers, who have already rendered their services during the last academic year, purely on academic arrangement basis from March 11-June 30, the official said.
