35 civilians, 80 jihadists killed in attack in Burkina Faso

OUAGADOUGOU, Burkina Faso (AP) — Jihadists attacked a town in northern Burkina Faso and killed 35 civilians, most of them women, and ensuing clashes with security forces left 80 jihadists dead, the West African nation’s president announced late Tuesday.

The violence, which erupted in the town of Arbinda in Sahel region near the country’s border with Mali, lasted for several hours, according to a military statement. Seven members of the security forces who responded also were killed.

3 killed in Burkina Faso attack

OUAGADOUGOU, Nov. 29 (Xinhua) -- An attack by unidentified gunmen Wednesday killed at least three people in the northern Loroum province in Burkina Faso, said the country's state news agency AIB.

The attack occurred at Bouna village, about 10 km east of Titao, the capital city of the province.

The African country has been marred by worsening security situation with attacks on a daily basis, which mostly happened in northern regions. The army has scaled up nationwide counter-terror operations.

37 killed in Burkina Faso's deadliest attack in five years

At least 14 killed in Burkina Faso shootings

OUAGADOUGOU, Oct. 21 (Xinhua) -- At least 14 people were killed in gun shootings over the weekend in northern Burkina Faso, local media said on Monday.

On Sunday evening, eight people were killed in Zoura village, northern Bam Province, by unknown gunmen.

On Saturday, a gun shooting claimed at least six lives in Dambatao, northern Loroum province.

Burkina Faso has seen an upsurge of terrorist attacks. Since 2015, a spate of terrorist attacks in Burkina Faso has killed more than 500 people and internally displaced more than 450,000 others.

At Least 16 Killed In Burkina Faso Mosque Attack

OUAGADOUGOU, Oct 13 (NNN-AGENCIES) – At least 16 people were killed in a mosque attack, by unidentified gunmen Friday, in northern Burkina Faso.

“Unidentified gunmen attacked Salmossi mosque, 20 km from Gorom-Gorom commune (in the Oudalan province, 269 km north-east of the capital Ouagadougou), where about 15 worshippers were killed and five others injured,” a military officer said.

Several local sources confirmed the attack, whereas the authorities still remain silent over the tragedy.

30 suspected terrorists killed in northern Burkina Faso

OUAGADOUGOU, Oct. 8 (Xinhua) -- At least 30 suspected terrorists were killed on Monday by Burkina Faso's armed forces in Gorgadji locality in the northern Sahelian region of the country, the national television RTB reported Tuesday.

Several soldiers were injured during the fight in the troubled northern region of the terrorist-attack-torn country, according to the RTB.

Since 2015, Burkina Faso has been facing a spate of terrorist attacks, in which more than 500 people were killed and over 280,000 displaced including more than 9,000 pupils.

17 killed in Burkina Faso attacks

OUAGADOUGOU, Oct 1 (NNN-AGENCIES) — The security forces in Burkina Faso say 17 people have been killed in three separate attacks in the north of the country.

Nine people died when dozens of gunmen riding motorcycles attacked Komsilga village, staying there for several hours, the
Burkina Faso Information Agency reported

Seven were killed in Deneon village, and a soldier died elsewhere. All the attacks took place on Saturday.

The soldier was killed in an attack targeting patrol troops in Deou village of Soum province.

Burkina Faso’s PM welcomes investors in mining sector

OUAGADOUGOU, Sept 28 (NNN-GNA) — Burkina Faso’s Prime Minister Christophe Joseph Marie Dabire says that the country is open to more investors in its mining sector.

“We want the whole world to know that our country is a mining country and that investors are welcomed,” said the prime minister in an opening speech at the West African Week of Mining Activities.

“The mining sector is the most dynamic sector that creates employment in our country,” said Dabire.

Gunmen attack Catholic church in Burkina Faso; 6 killed

OUAGADOUGOU, Burkina Faso (AP) — Authorities say gunmen have attacked a Catholic church in Burkina Faso, killing a priest and five worshippers.

The attack on Sunday took place in Dablo, about 200 kilometers (124 miles) from the capital, Ouagadougou.

Urbain Kabore, a government spokesman for the West African country’s Sahel region, said the gunmen also set fire to a health center and destroyed all places serving alcohol.
