Palestinians 'have no right of return' to their homes, says Israel UN envoy

27 July 2023; MEMO: Israel's UN ambassador said, on Thursday, that Palestinians "have no right to return" to their homes, Anadolu Agency reports.

"Let me be clear, there is no right of return. You all know this," Gilad Erdan told a UN Security Council meeting.

"The demand of millions of descendants of refugees returning to obliterate the Jewish people's right to self-determination and this will never happen."

Israel warns against burning of Torah in Sweden

28 July 2023; MEMO: Israel warned, on Friday, that the burning of the Torah in Sweden could harm relations between the two countries, Anadolu Agency reports.

Foreign Minister, Eli Cohen, spoke with his Swedish counterpart, Tobias Billstrom, and explained to him that Israel takes seriously the use of threats to burn holy books in Sweden, according to a statement by the Israeli Foreign Ministry.

Freedom Flotilla boat heads to German port of Hamburg

31 July 2023; MEMO: Handala, the Freedom Flotilla boat which hopes to break the siege of Gaza, yesterday left the Netherlands city of Rotterdam heading for Hamburg in Germany, a statement said.

Head of the International Committee for Breaking the Siege on Gaza, Zaher Birawi, said: "This stage of Handala's journey is core in the creation of a state of international solidarity with Palestine."

Israel: Ben-Gvir ends early release option for Palestinian 'administrative detainees'

31 July 2023; MEMO: Israel's far-right National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir changed the law on Sunday to end the possibility of early release from overcrowded prisons for Palestinians held under so-called "administrative detention", local media reported.

UK judge rules that home secretary acted unlawfully over asylum seekers

25 July 2023; MEMO: A judge in the UK has ruled that the home secretary acted unlawfully in not providing basic support to asylum seekers including young children and pregnant women.

Mr Justice Swift found that Suella Braverman broke the law by withholding £3 ($3.8) a week for healthy food for children up to three years old and pregnant women after lawyers representing five asylum seekers challenged the home secretary in the high court.

Palestine: UNRWA appeals for $23m to restore services destroyed by Israel in occupied West Bank

25 July 2023; MEMO: The United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) has appealed for $23.8 million for its multi-sectoral emergency response, following the recent Israeli military attack on the Jenin refugee camp in the northern West Bank.

1,000 doctors want to leave Israel due to judicial overhaul

26 July 2023; MEMO: Over 1,000 Israeli physicians plan to leave Israel and work abroad after the passing of the reasonableness law, the Israeli Medical Association said yesterday.

"The vast majority of physicians know they will not be able to fulfill their oath to patients under a regime that does not accept the role of reason," AP reported Hagai Levine, chairman of the Israeli Association of Public Health, saying.
