India: Rahul Gandhi to visit Amethi on July 10

New Delhi, Jul 8 (PTI) Congress leader Rahul Gandhi will visit Amethi on July 10, his first visit after losing the parliamentary constituency to Union minister Smriti Irani in the recently-held general election.

He will be attending a party workers meeting there, sources said Monday.

District unit spokesman of the Congress, Anil Singh told reporters in Amethi that the Gandhi scion will meet party workers at Nirmala Devi Educational Institute, Gauriganj.

India: Sonia, Rahul meet Congress MPs

New Delhi, Jul 8 (PTI) Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and its parliamentary party leader Sonia Gandhi Monday met new MPs of the party here as part of a training programme.

Sonia Gandhi addressed the MPs and assured them of all the support from the Congress, a leader present at the orientation meeting held at the party's war room at 15 Gurdwara Raqabganj Road.

Sonia Gandhi stressed on holding such meetings with elected MPs often, the leader said.

Indian Budget revealed govt's intention to push privatisation

New Delhi, Jul 7; GANASHAKTI - Stating that the Union Budget has revealed the intention of the government to go ahead "aggressively" towards corporatisation and privatisation of railways, the National Federation of Indian Railwaymen (NFIR) has said its affiliates are going to launch massive protests across the country against the move.

Union Finance Minister, Nirmala Sitharaman in her Budget speech on Friday proposed that railways should use Public Private Partnership (PPP) model for faster development, rolling stock manufacturing and the delivery of freight.  

India: Amit Shah to tour T'gana every month to strengthen BJP

Hyderabad,July 7 (PTI) BJP Chief Amit Shah would tour Telangana every month in a bid to strenghten the party in the state ahead of the next assembly elections, party's state PresidentKLaxman said here Sunday.

As part of 'Mission 2023' of the BJP, Shah has asked the party's state unit to achieve 50 per cent vote share in next Assembly polls and ensure that the saffron party comes to power, Laxman told reporters here.

"In the core-committee meeting held Saturday, our national president Amit Shah gave clear directions to focus on Telangana and come to power.

India: Attacking each other over rising crime not a solution, will cooperate with Centre: Kejriwal

New Delhi, Jul 7 (PTI) Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal Sunday said he has not gone soft on the Centre on the issue of rising crime rate in the national capital, but "attacking or abusing" each other over it is not a solution.

The chief minister made the remarks on the sidelines of an event to inaugurate works to install CCTV cameras in a residential area.

"Who said we have gone soft? We have said it many times that the central government should take stern action in view of the deteriorating law and order situation in Delhi.

India: HC acquits man serving 30 yrs jail in gang-rape case

New Delhi, Jul 7 (PTI) A man, who in 2014 was sentenced to 30 years imprisonment for raping a woman after confining her in a house for nine months, has been acquitted by the Delhi High Court, which said the case was filled with "inconsistencies and improbabilities".

Justice C Hari Shankar allowed the appeal of the man, Shiva, against the trial court's 2014 verdict by which he was convicted and awarded 30 years jail term.

The high court said the man shall be released from the jail forthwith unless his incarceration is required in any other case.

Govt rolls out PPP model for faster development of railways projects

New Delhi, July 5; GANASHAKTI: Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on July 5 in her maiden Budget speech said that the Indian railways will use Public Private Partnership (PPP) model for faster development, rolling stock manufacturing and the delivery of freight.

Railways will need Rs 50 lakh crore between 2018 to 2030 to complete the sanctioned projects, she said.

Indian Railways set a target of 100 percent electrification of tracks by 2022 and achieved Rs 1,320 crore capex in FY19, said a report by Stewart & Mackertich.

Delhi HC dismisses plea seeking SIT probe into attack on temple

New Delhi, Jul 5 (PTI) The Delhi High Court Friday dismissed a PIL seeking SIT probe into the attack on a temple in the walled city here, saying that the police was already taking action and nothing can be done overnight.

A bench of Chief Justice D N Patel and Justice C Hari Shankar said the petitioner in the instant matter expected the culprits behind the June 30 incident to be arrested overnight and observed that the expectation was "too high".

The court said that three FIRs were already registered in connection with the incident and investigation was already going on.

India: Lokpal gets over Rs 100 crore Budget

New Delhi, Jul 5 (PTI) Anti-corruption ombudsman Lokpal has got over Rs 100 crore Budget allocation, whereas Rs 35.55 crore outlay has been earmarked for the probity watchdog Central Vigilance Commission (CVC) for 2019-20.

In its interim budget for the ongoing fiscal presented on February 1, the government had not changed the allocation of Rs 4.29 crore for the Lokpal earmarked during 2018-19.

The anti-corruption body got its chairperson and members in March this year.
