India: BJP MLA in Telangana booked over comments on UP polls

Hyderabad, Feb 20 (PTI) A case was registered against BJP leader and party's MLA in Telangana T Raja Singh over his comments for threatening people to vote for his party in Uttar Pradesh, police said on Sunday.

The Election Commission on Saturday censured Raja Singh and barred him from campaigning for 72 hours.

India to host IOC session next year for first time in 40 years

NEW DELHI, Feb. 19 (Xinhua) -- India won the right to host the 2023 International Olympic Committee's (IOC) session in Mumbai in an unopposed race during the 139th IOC session in Beijing on Saturday.

This will be the first time in four decades and the second time overall that India hosts the IOC session after 1983 when it was last held in New Delhi.

India, UAE eye $100bn in annual trade after signing trade pact

18 Feb 2022; MEMO: India and the United Arab Emirates signed a broad trade and investment pact on Friday (February 18) that will eventually cut all tariffs on each other's goods and aims to more than double the annual trade between the two nations to $100 billion within five years, Reuters reports.

The virtual signing ceremony marks the first trade deal sealed by the Gulf State since it began pursuing such pacts last September in a bid to strengthen its status as a business hub.

New Delhi, Feb 19 (PTI) Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Saturday claimed that all the corrupt people have teamed up against the AAP and said they will get a befitting reply with the inauguration of 12,430 modern classrooms in city schools.

In a tweet in Hindi, he also said the country will not bow down before these corrupt people and move ahead.

"All the corrupt people of the country have teamed up against us. Today, we will give them a befitting reply by inaugurating 12,430 modern classrooms in Delhi schools.

India: Stillness prevail before polling day but voters ready to vote in Kanpur

Kanpur: The stillness before elections was certainly prevailing here on Saturday. Nothing of the politics was proceeding due to the end of the canvassing. However, the voters are prepared to vote for.

India: Six naxals arrested in Jharkhand

Khunti (Jharkhand), Feb 18 (PTI) Six members of the outlawed People's Liberation Front of India (PLFI) were arrested from Khunti district of Jharkhand on Friday, police said.

Acting on specific inputs, the district police along with CRPF personnel, conducted raids between Halom and Jojobir villages under Rania police station, and apprehended the ultras, Superintendent of Police Ashutosh Sekhar said.

Police have recovered a country-made pistol, mobile phones, PLFI leaflets, among other things, from their possession, he added.

India: Mumbai to host IOC session in 2023

Mumbai, Feb 19 (PTI) The International Olympic Committee on Saturday awarded India the right to host the IOC Session in Mumbai next year.

Nita Ambani, the Indian representative on the committee, described it as "a significant development for the country's Olympic aspiration".

India will host the session for the first time since 1983. The session will be hosted at the state-of-the-art, brand new Jio World Convention Centre.

Bill Gates Visits Pakistan, Discusses Fight Against Polio, COVID-19

ISLAMABAD, Feb 18 (NNN-APP) – Bill Gates, co-chair of the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, arrived in Pakistan yesterday, for a visit and held meetings with the Pakistani leadership.

Pakistani Prime Minister, Imran Khan, during his meeting with Gates, lauded the Gates foundation for its continued support and partnership with Pakistan, in polio eradication, the Prime Minister’s Office said, in a statement.

The prime minister underlined that, the government is fully committed and determined towards polio eradication, the statement said.
