Lebanon condemns Israel strike on Syria, saying it violates Lebanese airspace

14 Nov 2022; MEMO: Lebanon has condemned an Israeli air strike on Syria, emphasising that it violated Lebanese airspace by doing so.

According to Syria's military, the Israeli strike on the Shayrat Airbase in Homs province yesterday killed two soldiers and injured three. A warehouse for Iranian militias and Hezbollah were also destroyed, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR) reported.

Lebanon: 'We want president that is not submissive to US'; Nasrallah

12 Nov 2022; MEMO: Secretary-general of Hezbollah Hassan Nasrallah announced on Friday that the next Lebanese president should not be "submissive" to the US nor "betray" the resistance, Arab48.com reported.

"We want a president who is not submissive to the US and does not betray the resistance, but protects it. Protecting the resistance is not stabbing it in the back or selling it," Nasrallah stated.

Middle East Airlines plane hit by stray bullet while landing in Beirut, no injuries

10 Nov 2022; MEMO: A Middle East Airlines (MEA) passenger plane bound from Jordan to Beirut was hit by a stray bullet while landing in Beirut on Thursday, with no injuries reported, MEA Chairman Mohamad El-Hout said, Reuters reports.

Hout told Reuters that seven to eight stationary planes are hit by stray bullets shot from areas neighbouring Beirut Airport each year, but Wednesday's incident was the first time this had occurred while a plane was moving.

Lebanon To Launch Cholera Vaccination Campaign As Outbreak Under Control: Minister

BEIRUT, Nov 9 (NNN-NNA) – Lebanese Health Minister, Firas Abiad, said yesterday that, his country will launch the first-phase vaccination campaign against cholera on Saturday, as the outbreak is now under control.

“There was a rapid alert to the epidemic, whether by equipping hospital centres, boosting prevention, or securing vaccines,” Abiad said, during a press conference held at the Health Ministry, on launching the vaccination campaign against cholera.

Lebanon cannot bear prolonged presidential vacancy: House speaker

BEIRUT, Nov. 7 (Xinhua) -- Lebanon's House Speaker Nabih Berri said Monday that Lebanon can no longer bear the consequences of leaving the presidency vacant for long periods, the National News Agency reported.

"Lebanon cannot bear longer periods of presidential vacancy, and the Lebanese cannot endure further deterioration," Berri said during his meeting with a delegation from the Lebanese Press Syndicate.

Germany offers support to Lebanese army in maritime surveillance, training

BEIRUT, Nov. 6 (Xinhua) -- German Defense Minister Christine Lambrecht on Sunday announced new support from her country to the Lebanese army in maritime surveillance and training.

Lambrecht's remarks came during her visit to Lebanon to follow up on her country's maritime force operating with the United Nations Interim force in Lebanon (UNIFIL), according to the National News Agency.

Lebanon Launched National Strategy For Wheat Cultivation

BEIRUT, Nov 3 (NNN-NNA) – Lebanese Agriculture Minister, Abbas Hajj Hassan, yesterday launched a national strategy for wheat cultivation, amid concerns of a wheat crisis in the country, as the Russia-Ukraine conflict continues to evolve.

“We developed a plan for distributing seeds to farmers and monitoring the seasons by seeking support from Lebanese and foreign experts,” said Hajj Hassan, hoping the plan could help Lebanon achieve high-quality production and build a solid agricultural sector.

Armed man storms Lebanon bank to retrieve his savings

03 Nov 2022; MEMO: An armed man yesterday stormed a branch of Credit Libanais bank in the Lebanese capital's suburb of Hazmieh, demanding that his savings be returned to him.

Local media quoted eyewitnesses as saying that the depositor was a "former soldier in one of the state security agencies."

They noted that the bank handed over a total of $30,000 to the armed man.

Arab League urges Lebanon to agree on new president

01 Nov 2022; MEMO: Arab League Secretary-General, Ahmed Aboul Gheit, on Tuesday called on Lebanese politicians to reach a consensus on electing a new president, Anadolu News Agency reports.

Lebanese President, Michel Aoun, left office on Monday after his six-year term expired, with lawmakers failing to agree on a new president.

Aboul Gheit met Lebanon's caretaker Prime Minister, Najib Mikati, in Algeria on the sidelines of the 31st Arab Summit.
