New Delhi, Mar 7 (PTI) Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday dedicated to the nation the 7,500th Janaushadhi Kendra at NEIGRIHMS in Shillong.

Modi, who dedicated the latest centre that provides quality medicines at an affordable price through a video conference, also interacted with people from different parts of the country.

The Pradhan Mantri Bhartiya Janaushadhi Pariyojana aims to provide quality medicines at an affordable price.

Japan to extend virus emergency for 2 weeks for Tokyo area

Tokyo, Mar 5 (AP-PTI) Japan's government will extend a state of emergency in the Tokyo region for another two weeks because its medical systems are still strained by COVID-19 patients, the minister in charge of virus response said Friday.

"For two more weeks, we will keep the measure in place ... so that we can firmly ease strains on hospitals" to meet conditions for lifting the emergency measures, economic revitalization minister Yasutoshi Nishimura told reporters.

India: 54% of Hyderabad's population have antibodies against coronavirus

Hyderabad, Mar 4 (PTI) A seroprevalence study done in Hyderabad has revealed that around 54 per cent of the city's residents developed antibodies against SARS-CoV-2, indicating prior exposure to coronavirus.

According to a CCMB release on Thursday, the joint study by the CSIR-Centre for Cellular and Molecular Biology (CCMB), National Institute of Nutrition (NIN) and vaccine-maker Bharat Biotech considered around 9,000 samples.

The scientists checked for antibodies against the virus in people across 30 wards of the city.

India: Rs 500 fine for not wearing mask in Haryana

Chandigarh, Mar 1 (PTI) Haryana Chief Minister M L Khattar directed officers on Monday to provide at least five free masks and also start the drive of imposing a fine on those who are found without masks.

"Though vaccination for COVID-19 has been rolled out, but still we should religiously follow all the guidelines like wearing masks and maintaining social distancing to stay safe and to ensure containment of virus spread," Khattar said as he appealed to the people to wear masks whenever they venture out.

India: Farooq Abdullah gets first dose of COVID-19 vaccine

Srinagar, Mar 2 (PTI) National Conference president Farooq Abdullah, who is Lok Sabha member from Srinagar, on Tuesday got his first dose of COVID-19 vaccine at a hospital here, officials said.

Abdullah, 85, was given the first dose of the vaccine at the Sher-e-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences, Soura, the officials said.

Omar Abdullah, son of the NC president, took to Twitter to thank the doctors and other staff at the hospital for administering the vaccine to his father.

The 74-year-old woman wasn’t eligible to be vaccinated in Nashville, where she lives, because there were so many health care workers to vaccinate there. But a neighbor told her the state’s rural counties had already moved to younger age groups and she found an appointment 60 miles away.

India: Schools in Kashmir open after one year

Srinagar, Mar 1 (PTI) Schools in Kashmir reopened on Monday after remaining closed for nearly one year due to the coronavirus pandemic.

The students of classes 9 to 12 attended school for the first time since March 9, 2020.

Only those students were allowed to attend school who had been granted permission in writing by their parents.

Most private schools had sought no objection certificates from parents, absolving the school management of any blame in case of any health issue arising due to conduct of physical classes.
