Egypt to tax social media influencers earning over $32,000

28 Sep 2021; MEMO: Egypt has said it will tax social media content creators earning more than 500,000 Egyptian pounds ($32,000) annually.

"Anyone who makes a profit in Egypt must be fairly taxed whatever their field of work is," said tax authority official Mohamed Al-Gayyer.

Another tax official, Mohamed Keshk, said that anyone who fails to comply faces jail time of up to five years for tax evasion.

India: TN firm bags Boeing contract to manufacture aviation components

Chennai, Sep 27 (PTI) A Tamil Nadu based manufacturing company has bagged a contract from global aerospace giant, Boeing, to supply critical aviation components and deliveries would begin early next year.

Officials of the two companies exchanged the contract in the presence of Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M K Stalin at the Secretariat here for manufacture and supply of components and parts for Boeing's products.

India: Existing foreign trade policy to be extended till March next: Goyal

New Delhi, Sep 27 (PTI) Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal on Monday said the existing foreign trade policy (FTP) will be extended for six months till March 31 next year.

The government had earlier extended the FTP 2015-20 until September 30 this year due to the Covid-19 crisis. The FTP provides guidelines for enhancing exports to push economic growth and create jobs.

Iran, Saudi sides continue tension-easing talks in Baghdad

Baghdad, Sep 27 (AP-PTI) Representatives from Iran and Saudi Arabia have held a new round of talks in Baghdad, two Iraqi officials said Monday, in the first such meeting between the regional foes since a new president was sworn in in Tehran.

The meeting held last week discussed pending issues between the two countries according to a previously agreed on roadmap, including diplomatic representation between the two countries, according to one Iraqi official.

Some countries are hyping 'China threat': Beijing on Quad summit

Beijing, Sep 27 (PTI) China on Monday slammed the Quad grouping, saying some countries are forming "exclusive cliques" and hyping" the 'China threat' and the move is doomed to fail.

The Quad leaders at their first-in-person summit in Washington on September 25 pledged to ensure a "free and open" Indo-Pacific, which is also "inclusive and resilient", as they noted that the strategically vital region, witnessing China's growing military manoeuvring, is a bedrock of their shared security and prosperity.

India: Kanpur Metro three rakes reach city from Gujarat

Kanpur: For the Kanpur Metro Project, three rakes of the coaches have reached here from the Savli Plant in Gujarat.

The rakes were taken to the polytechnic depot via Bypass and G.T. Road.

The UP Metro Rail Corporation officials will conduct the compiling process of the trains at Polytechnic Depot here.

Three different trailers brought the coaches through Jaipur and Agra and Etawah. After a five-day trip, the rakes eventually reached here.

The priority corridor connects IIT Kanpur to Motijheel that stretches along with a total of 9 stations.

India: Received unprecedented response to Bharat Bandh (Close India) call: Combined Farmers Union (SKM)

New Delhi, Sep 27 (PTI) The Samyukta Kisan Morcha (SKM), a united front of over 40 farmer unions protesting against three agriculture laws of the Centre, on Monday said its call for a "Bharat Bandh" received an "unprecedented and historic" response from more than 23 states and not a single untoward incident was reported from anywhere.

It, however, said Monday's events were "unfortunately marked by three farmer deaths", adding that more details are awaited.

Protest against Jordan-Israel gas deal

27 Sep 2021; MEMO: Dozens of Jordanians protested in the capital, Amman, yesterday calling on the government to abolish a $10 billion gas agreement signed by the state-owned National Electric Power Company (NEPCO) with Israel.

The protesters gathered near the Ministry of Energy and NEPCO's headquarters and raised banners denouncing the deal.

Member of the event's follow-up committee, Muhammad Al-Absi, said the stand coincides with the passage of five years since the deal was signed.

India: Kerala one of top 20 global ecosystems in affordable talent

Thiruvananthapuram, Sep 26 (PTI) Kerala was featured in the 2021 Global Startup Ecosystem Report (GSER) as one of the top 20 global ecosystems in terms of affordable talent, which is an encouraging development for startups in the state during the COVID pandemic, KSUM said on Sunday.

Kerala Startup Mission (KSUM), in a release said the report also ranks the state as the fifth Asian Ecosystem in the affordable talent category.

Canada lifts ban on direct flights from India

Toronto, Sep 26 (PTI) Canada will allow direct flights from India from Monday, lifting the ban on them after a gap of more than five months.

Announcing the decision, Transport Canada on Saturday in a tweet said: "Beginning at 00:01 EDT on September 27, direct flights from India can land in Canada with additional public health measures in place."
