India: Girl sexually assaulted by relative in northwest Delhi

New Delhi, Oct 22 (PTI) An eight-year-old girl was allegedly sexually assaulted by her relative in northwest Delhi's Ashok Vihar area, police said on Thursday.

On Wednesday at 9.55 pm, police received information regarding the sexual assault on a minor girl in Ashok Vihar area. The victim was rushed to Babu Jagjivan Ram Memorial Hospital, a senior police officer said.

A case has been registered under relevant IPC sections and Section 6 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.

India: Man arrested for raping foreign national

New Delhi, Oct 22 (PTI) A 37-year-old man has been arrested for allegedly raping a foreign national in central Delhi's Karol Bagh area, police said on Thursday.

The man was arrested by the Jaipur police last month after two other foreign nationals accused him of raping them in Rajasthan's capital.

The Delhi police brought the accused to the national capital from Jaipur for their investigation in the Karol Bagh rape case, and placed him under arrest.

India: JNU to reopen in phased manner from Nov 2

New Delhi, Oct 21 (PTI) The Jawaharlal Nehru University will reopen in a phased manner from November 2, starting with day scholars and final year PhD students who need to access laboratories and submit their theses, according to an official statement.

The university has been physically shut since March in view of the coronavirus pandemic. The JNU Students' Union (JNUSU) has been demanding a phased return of research scholars to the campus and has been on an indefinite sit-in at the university's gate since Saturday.

Indian Govt restores all existing visas, barring electronic, tourist and medical categories

New Delhi, Oct 22 (PTI) The government on Thursday decided to restore with immediate effect all existing visas, except electronic, tourist and medical categories, almost eight months after their suspension following the coronavirus outbreak and subsequent imposition of a nationwide lockdown

The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) also announced giving permission to all Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) and Person of Indian Origin (PIO) card holders and all other foreign nationals to visit India for any purpose, except on a tourist visa

India: Gov to spend Rs 424 crore on beautification, upgradate around Badrinath temple

Gopeshwar, Oct 21 (PTI) A budget of Rs 424 crore has been proposed for the Badrinath master plan for beautification and upgradation of facilities around the Himalayan temple.

Sharing the information at a meeting with locals to discuss the master plan on Tuesday, Tourism Secretary Dilip Jawalkar said the proposed budget awaits the PMO's approval.

India: Wipro bags five-year deal from Fortum

New Delhi, Oct 20 (PTI) IT services major Wipro on Tuesday said it has bagged an application management (AMS) and services integration and management (SIAM) contract from Fortum, a clean-energy company headquartered in Espoo, Finland.

As a part of the five-year agreement, Wipro will manage Fortum's application portfolio across hundreds of applications for more than 11,500 users across 18 countries and provide 24/7 support for business-critical applications, a statement said.

No financial details of the deal were disclosed.

India: No Durga Puja pandals in Delhi's CR Park this year

New Delhi, Oct 19 (PTI) No Durga Puja pandals will be allowed to set up in Delhi's CR Park due to the COVID-19 pandemic but the puja in the main temple will be held with the entry of around 50 people, AAP MLA Saurabh Bharadwaj said on Monday.

The Greater Kailash legislator said the decision was taken in view of a huge number of senior citizen population in the area.

However, Bharadwaj said the residents will do the traditional kalash pooja.

India: Activists under detention for their words: Tharoor

Pune, Oct 17 (PTI) Congress leader Shashi Tharoor on Saturday said a large number of people, including activists Varavara Rao, Sudha Bharadwaj and Anand Teltumbde, are under detention for their words, although none of them is accused of hitting anyone or possessing a gun.

He also said that words and ideas may outlast power and authority.

The Thiruvananthapuram MP and author of several books was speaking at the Symbiosis International University Literary Festival via video-conferencing.
