India: Liquor has become cheaper than fuel: Ashok Chavan

Nanded (Maha), Jul 15 (PTI) Thanks to price hikes, liquor has become cheaper than petrol and diesel in the country, Congress leader and Maharashtra PWD minister Ashok Chavan said here on Thursday.

The former chief minister led a protest march against rising prices from Old Mondha area to the district collector's office.

India: T-Series MD Bhushan Kumar booked for rape

Mumbai, Jul 16 (PTI) Mumbai police have registered a case against T-Series company's managing director Bhushan Kumar, son of music baron late Gulshan Kumar, for allegedly raping a woman on the promise of providing a job to her, an official said on Friday.

The offence was registered on Thursday at D N Nagar police station in Andheri (West) on the basis of the complaint lodged by the 30-year-old woman, who is an actor, he said.

India: Interfaith marriage ceremony called off in Maha after protests

Mumbai, Jul 13 (PTI) Buckling under pressure from their Hindu community members, parents of a 28-year-old woman in Maharashtra's Nashik district have called off her marriage ceremony with a Muslim man, sources said.

In a letter to the community body, the woman's father, a jeweller, said they decided not to go ahead with the July 18 wedding ceremony due to the present situation', referring to the protests on social media after the wedding invitation card went viral.

Mumbai, Jul 11 (PTI) Shiv Sena MP Sanjay Raut on Sunday said the death of Elgar Parishad-Maoist links case accused Jesuit priest Stan Swamy in custody cannot be justified even if Maoists are "more dangerous than Kashmiri separatists".

In his weekly column Rokhthok in the party mouthpiece 'Saamana', Raut wondered whether India's foundation was so weak that an 84-year-old man could can wage a war against it, and said being critical of an incumbent government doesn't mean being against the country.

India: Uddhav dismissive about talk of patch-up with BJP

India: Cinema legend Dilip Kumar dies at 98

Mumbai, Jul 7 (PTI) Dilip Kumar, India's enduring film legend through the decades, died at a Mumbai hospital on Wednesday after prolonged illness, his family and doctors treating him said. He was 98.

The actor, known to generations of film-goers as tragedy king' for his portrayal of the brooding, intense romantic in classics such as Mughal-e-Azam and Devdas , is survived by his wife Saira Banu.

The last rites will be held at 5 pm at the Juhu Qabrastan at Santacruz Mumbai, a post from his Twitter handle said.

Swamy, a Jesuit priest, who spent long years working among his beloved Advasis in this eastern Indian tribal state, died on Monday in Mumbai, hours before his appeal for bail in a case where he is ironically accused of being an `Urban Naxal' was to be heard.
