India: Final batch of LRSAM Missiles flagged off from APJ Abdul Kalam Missile Complex

Hyderabad, Feb 14 (PTI):The final production batch of Long Range Surface-to-Air Missile (LRSAM), designed and developed by DRDO in collaboration with various industry partners and integrated by BDL, was flagged off at DRDL, A P J Abdul Kalam Missile Complex here on Sunday.

The event was held in the presence of G Satheesh Reddy, Secretary, Department of Defence Research and Development and DRDO Chairman and Rear Admiral V Rajasekhar, Director, Defence Machine Design Establishment, a Defence release said.

India: Gujarat CM collapses on stage at poll rally

Vadodara, Feb 14 (PTI) Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani collapsed on stage on Sunday while addressing a rally for upcoming civic polls in Nizampura area of Vadodara, BJP leaders said.

Rupani was given first aid on the stage. He was later seen descending the stairs of the stage on his own.

This was Rupani's third political rally during the day in Vadodara.

India: Nun found dead in quarry pond

Kochi, Feb 14 (PTI) A 45-year-old nun was found dead in a quarry pond near her convent at Vazhakkala area on Sunday night, police said.

Jesna Thomas, a native of Idukki, was a resident of St Thomas convent here.

"The body has been shifted to a nearby hospital for conducting the covid test.

The mother superior of the convent informed us that the nun was undergoing treatment for depression for the last 11 years," a senior police official told PTI.

India: 16 labourers dead after truck overturns in Jalgaon

Jalgaon, Feb 15 (PTI) Sixteen persons were killed after a truck overturned in Maharashtra's Jalgaon district, police said on Monday.

All the deceased were labourers from Abhoda, Kerhala and Raver in the district, police said, adding they died after their papaya-laden truck overturned shortly after midnight near a temple at Kingaon village.

Five labourers have sustained serious injuries and are being treated at a rural hospital, police said.

India: Gujarat CM Vijay Rupani tests positive for coronavirus

Ahmedabad, Feb 15 (PTI) Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani has tested positive for coronavirus, said a hospital where the CM is admitted after he fainted in a rally.

On Sunday, Rupani, 64, fainted on stage while addressing a rally in Vadodara for the upcoming civic polls in the state, following which he was flown to Ahmedabad and admitted to the U N Mehta Hospital here.

Rupani's sample was collected on Sunday night and sent for RT-PCR test which has come out positive for coronavirus, said a health bulletin issued by the hospital on Monday.

India: Youngsters seem to overlook traffic rules

Kanpur: Traffic rules are important for us but youngsters do not seem to follow the guidelines. They were overheard saying what if the jam occurs by wrong parking.

Though the crowd surges during the time school leaves and the students care a little less in following the rules needed to maintain even flow of traffic.

One said park your bike on one side. Other stated let the crowd happen. Why do they show indifference attitude towards the traffic rules?

New Delhi, Feb 13 (PTI) The right to protest cannot be anytime and everywhere , the Supreme Court said as it dismissed a plea seeking review of its verdict passed last year in which it had held the occupation of public ways during the anti-CAA protests at Shaheen Bagh here was not acceptable.

The top court said there may be some spontaneous protests but in case of prolonged dissent or protest, there cannot be continued occupation of public place affecting the rights of others.

India: Petrol crosses Rs 99/litre, diesel at Rs 91

New Delhi, Feb 14 (PTI) Petrol price crossed the Rs 99 a litre mark in Rajasthan on Sunday while diesel topped Rs 91 after rates were increased for the sixth day in a row.

Petrol price was increased by 29 paise per litre and diesel by 32 paise, according to a price notification of state-owned fuel retailers.

India accounts for 10 per cent of global road crash victims: World Bank

Washington, Feb 13 (PTI) India, which has one per cent of the world's vehicles, accounts for 10 per cent of all road crash victims, the latest World Bank report on road safety said on Saturday.

Hartwig Schafer, World Bank's Vice President for South Asia, said the Indian government in recent years has taken significant steps to address the issues related to road safety.
