Taiwan delivers Covid-19 medical supplies to India

New Delhi, May 2 (PTI) Taiwan on Sunday delivered to India 150 oxygen concentrators and 500 oxygen cylinders to assist the country in its fight against a devastating second wave of the coronavirus pandemic.

The Taipei Economic and Cultural Center (TECC) said more batches of medical equipment and supplies will be airlifted to India soon.

India: Mamata says combatting COVID-19 will be top priority

Kolkata, May 2 (PTI) West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee Sunday said combating the COVID-19 situation will be the topmost priority of her government and dedicated her party's resounding victory to the people of the state.

"For us, combating the COVID-19 situation will be the topmost priority... This is victory of Bengal and only Bengal can do it ," she said in her brief message to party workers.

New Delhi, May 2 (PTI) Senior Congress leader Shashi Tharoor on Sunday hailed Mamata Banerjee for her "spectacular victory" in the West Bengal Assembly polls and said the BJP has met its match in Bengal and lost.

Tharoor, who campaigned extensively for the United Democratic Front (UDF) in the Kerala polls, also expressed disappointment with the results in the state where the ruling CPI(M)-led Left Democratic Front was all set to retain power with a thumping mandate.

India: WB poll results victory of democracy: Shiv Sena

Mumbai, May 2 (PTI) As the TMC is set to retain power in West Bengal, the Shiv Sena on Sunday said Mamata Banerjee's win in her state is "victory of democracy" in India and the result would give a new direction to national politics.

Shiv Sena MP Sanjay Raut also hailed Banerjee as the "Tigress of Bengal".

"Congratulations Tigress of Bengal," he tweeted after Banerjee's Trinamool Congress (TMC) surged way ahead the BJP in the counting of votes currently underway.

India: Son of RSS leader, friend killed in Gurgaon car accident

Chandigarh, May 2 (PTI) The younger son of RSS leader Pawan Jindal was among two killed in a car accident in Gurgaon on Sunday, police said.

Gaurav Jindal (35), the son of Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh leader from Haryana Pawan Jindal, and his friend Sawan (37) were travelling in a BMW when the accident occurred in the early hours, said Praveen, Assistant Sub-Inspector of Police, DLF Phase-2 police station, Gurgaon.

India: BJP congratulates Mamata, TMC for winning WB polls

Kolkata, May 2 (PTI) BJP Sunday congratulated Mamata Banerjee and Trinamool Congress for winning the West Bengal assembly election for the third successive term and assured that the saffron party will work as a constructive opposition.

BJP will cooperate with the government in all its pro-people activities, the party's state vice-president Jay Prakash Majumdar said.

"We will play the role of an active, responsible opposition party in West Bengal," he said.

India: Roadways buses failing to get passengers

Kanpur: What a reversal! Now the roadways buses are made to wait for the passengers for several hours. This spectacle was seen at the busy Jhkarkutti Bus Depot here.

The crowd of passengers no longer stays at the depot. The bus conductor has to wait for more than six hours to carry the passengers. 

Despite waiting for nine long hours the bus passengers for non-air-conditioned buses bound for Varanasi and Gonda were not available. The norm of fifty per cent passengers in a bus seems to be waning.

India: Oxygen shortage: Delhi hospitals cry for help

New Delhi, May 2 (PTI) Battling an acute shortage of oxygen, some hospitals in Delhi on Sunday sent out desperate SOS calls to authorities to replenish their dwindling stocks, with one healthcare facility even requesting the government to shift out its patients.

Madhukar Rainbow Children's Hospital in Malviya Nagar on Sunday sounded an alarm about their depleting stocks around noon, saying 50 people, including four newborns, were "at risk".

The hospital does not have a liquid oxygen storage tank and depends on oxygen cylinders from a private vendor.

India: Light rains lower harsh heat but humidity pains in Kanpur

Kanpur: The weather becomes a little less harsh as some drizzles of the predicted rain took place in the late-night hours here. If we go through the temperature at 3 p.m., it stands at 36 degrees Celsius with hazy Sun. There is also maintaining humidity.

The weather experts have expected the possibility of changing conditions up to five days. There is an indication of fierce storm and rains.
