Russia and China eye building joint lunar station

MOSCOW, October 2. /TASS/. Russia is looking at building a lunar station jointly with Chinese partners, CEO of Russia’s state space corporation Roscosmos, Dmitry Rogozin, said.

"China is a serious partner. I don’t rule out that as soon as we agree the outlines of our lunar program with the Americans, it is our manned lunar program, the formation of a research station on Moon’s surface is likely to be carried out with our Chinese partners. They can be equal partners already in the coming years," he told Russia’s TV Channel One.

Nobel Physics Prize awarded to trio of scientists from US, France, Canada

STOCKHOLM, October 2. /TASS/. The 2018 Nobel Prize in Physics has been awarded to scientists Arthur Ashkin of the US, Gerard Mourou of France and Donna Strickland of Canada, the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences announced on Tuesday.

"The inventions being honored this year have revolutionized laser physics," the Academy said in a statement.

China's largest amphibious aircraft conducts high-speed taxiing trials on water

Beijing, Oct 2 (PTI) China's indigenously-developed large amphibious aircraft has successfully conducted high-speed water taxiing trials on the Zhanghe reservoir.

The test of the AG600 seaplane was conducted on Monday at a speed of 145 kms in the city of Jingmen of central China's Hubei Province, according to China Aviation Industry General Aircraft Co Ltd (CAIGA).

Russia begins field tests of electromagnetic weapons

MOSCOW, October 1. /TASS/. Russia’s electromagnetic weapons have begun to be tested in the field, the first deputy CEO of the radio-electronic technologies concern KRET, Vladimir Mikheyev, told TASS on Monday.

He said that microwave weapon systems "exist and develop with success."

"Testing is conducted non-stop in laboratory conditions and at test sites," Mikheyev said when asked if such weapons had been tested already. He added that active research was underway into systems of protection from electromagnetic weapons.

Two scientists share 2018 Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine

STOCKHOLM, Oct. 1 (Xinhua) -- Two scientists have shared 2018 Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine, the Nobel committee announced here on Monday.

The Nobel assembly at the Karolinska Institute has decided to award the 2018 physiology or medicine prize jointly to James P. Allison and Tasuku Honjo for their discovery of cancer therapy by inhibition of negative immune regulation.

California affirms car mileage rule despite Trump rollback

SACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP) — California told automakers Friday they must still comply with the state’s strict vehicle mileage standards even if President Donald Trump rolls back federal rules.

The action by California Air Resources Board was widely expected. It sets up a likely court battle if the Trump administration follows through with an attempt to revoke California’s unique authority to set its own vehicle emissions standards. Those standards have been adopted by 12 other states that account for about a third of vehicle sales in the United States.

Russia may build first manned base on Moon’s surface in 2030

MOSCOW, September 28. /TASS/. Russia may build the first manned base on the surface of the Moon in 2030, the chief of the nuclear planetology department at the Russian Academy of Sciences’ Space Research Institute, Igor Mitrofanov, told TASS on Friday.

On Monday, Roscosmos corporation said Russia had plans for building its own base for space crews on the surface of the Moon. The possibility of cooperation with NASA or BRICS countries is being considered, the corporation said.

China's FTC-2000G versatile aircraft conducts maiden flight

GUIYANG, Sept. 28 (Xinhua) -- China's self-developed FTC-2000G versatile aircraft successfully conducted its maiden flight Friday in the city of Anshun in southwest China's Guizhou Province, according to its developer.

The FTC-2000G was developed by the Guizhou Aviation Industry Corporation under the state-owned Aviation Industry Corporation of China.

The multi-functional military aircraft can be used for attacking, combat, as well as daily training.

Photos from Japanese space rovers show asteroid is ... rocky

TOKYO (AP) — New photos taken on the surface of an asteroid show that it is (drum roll, please) ... rocky.

It may be no surprise, but Japan space agency scientists and engineers are thrilled by the images being sent to Earth by two jumping robotic rovers that they dropped onto an asteroid about 280 million kilometers (170 million miles) away.

The Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency posted the latest photos on its website late Thursday. They show slightly tilted close-ups of the rocky surface from different locations.
