Post 9/11, Pakistan had proposed UN intervention in Afghanistan: ex-ISI chief

ISLAMABAD, Sep 9 (APP): After 9/11, Pakistan had proposed an intervention by the United Nations in the conflict-hit Afghanistan instead of a military initiative to save the region from chaos, the former chief of Inter Services Intelligence (ISI) has said.

“We proposed to the US administration at the highest level — the President, the Secretary of State, the director of the CIA and other US leaders — that there should be a UN intervention in Afghanistan,” General (retd) Ehsan ul Haq said in an interview with Arab News published at its website on Thursday.

Pakistan: Premature to give reaction on new Afghan caretaker setup: Fawad

ISLAMABAD, Sep 08 (APP): Minister for Information and Broadcasting Chaudhry Fawad Hussain said on Wednesday that it would be premature to give reaction on the caretaker setup announced by the Taliban in Afghanistan.

“We should wait a while, it is not appropriate to comment at this time,” the minister said in an interview with BBC.

To a question, he said it was learned through the media that the CIA chief visited Kabul.

He said that according to media reports, Turkish and Qatari intelligence chiefs were also present in Kabul.

Top diplomats of Afghanistan's neighbors to discuss situation, Pakistan says

ISLAMABAD, September 8. /TASS/: Makhdoom Shah Mahmood Qureshi, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, is to discuss the situation in Afghanistan with his counterparts from the states bordering the crisis-hit country on Wednesday. The statement was published on the website of the Pakistani Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The meeting will be held online. The Ministers of Foreign Affairs of China, Iran, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan are to participate in the meeting alongside the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Pakistan.

ISLAMABAD, Sept 6 (APP): Prime Minister Imran Khan Monday stressed that the international community must stand in solidarity with the Afghan people, undertake positive engagement and create incentives for ensuring sustainable peace, stability and economic development in Afghanistan.

The prime minister said Pakistan had suffered enormously due to protracted conflict and instability in Afghanistan.

Misbah and Waqar step down from Pakistan coaching roles

ISLAMABAD (AP) — Misbah-ul-Haq and Waqar Younis have quit their coaching roles with Pakistan, a month before the Twenty20 World Cup in the United Arab Emirates.

The Pakistan Cricket Board said on Monday that it had appointed former test players Saqlain Mushtaq and Abdul Razzaq as interim coaches for the home limited-overs series against New Zealand that starts this month, and for the two T20s against England in October.

“Team management for the T20 World Cup will be appointed in due course,” the PCB said in a statement.

Three Killed, 20 Injured In SW Pakistan’s Suicide Blast

ISLAMABAD, Sept 5 (NNN-APP) – At least three people were killed and 20 others injured when a suicide bomber ripped himself off at a vehicle of paramilitary troops in Quetta, the capital city of Pakistan’s south-west Balochistan province this morning, rescue teams said.

The incident happened at about 7:30 a.m. local time when the bomber hit his explosive-laden motorbike into one of the vehicles of the Frontier Corps (FC) convoy, on the outskirts of the city, Muhammad Zeeshan, manager operations at the rescue department of Edhi Foundation Quetta, said.

Pakistan's COVID-19 death toll crosses 26,000

Islamabad, Sep 3 (PTI) Pakistan's coronavirus death toll crossed the grim figure of 26,000 on Friday, even as the country reported 3,787 new cases during the last 24 hours.

So far the country has recorded 1,171,578 confirmed cases of the coronavirus and 26,035 total deaths since the first patient was diagnosed on February 26, 2020, the Ministry of National Health Services reported.
